I recently bought a 55" Samsung LED-LCD TV. I had it for a week before I was fed up with the poor viewing angles and lack of deep blacks. I swapped it for a 58" Samsung plasma (1.4" thick!) and I couldn't be happier. Also, the plasma was cheaper, to boot.
55" LED-LCD TV I started with:
Samsung UN55C6800 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV

58" plasma TV I switched it out for:
Samsung PN58C6500 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

TL:DR LCD TVs suck, plasma kicks ass!

- The 6 series I bought was the best non-3D LCD Samsung makes. I don't want to pay a premium for a feature I know I won't use on the off-chance I might get a better quality LCD panel in my TV. That said, I didn't know about the TN vs. PVA issue, so 3D was the only thing that would encourage me to go to the 8 or 9 series, and I don't want it.
- I did research both types of TVs, and my first intention was to go plasma. However, the Panasonic VT25 was too thick for my purposes (nearly 4 inches), so I was going to go LCD to get a thinner screen. Only later did I discover Samsung's plasmas are nearly as thin as their LCDs, so plasma was a viable option again.
- I also thought glare would be an issue, so I went with LCD initially. After experiencing the both the plasma and LCD TV in my living room, the glare off the screen is about the same. Samsung's anti-glare coating is about the same on both.
