Atlus Refreshing Persona 2: Innocent Sin for PSP

According to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (via Siliconera), Atlus is prepping a PSP-exclusive reboot of the PSone RPG Personal 2: Innocent Sin in Japan.

The refresh will tweak the gameplay, a new animation intro for the title, and widescreen support for Sony's handheld. Persona remake boss Shoji Meguro will helm the project.

According to Joystiq, Atlus has "no comment" on bringing the game to North America. Persona 2 was originally released in two parts, Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. In November 2000, Atlus brought Eternal Punishment to North America; however, Innocent Sin has never been released stateside.

According to Meguro putting both games on one UMD is "impossible"; however, Meguro would like to see Eternal Punishment get the same "refresh" treatment.

With the growing popularity of the Persona franchise in North America, following the PS2 releases of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 and Persona 4, we'd hope that Atlus would consider bringing the PSP title to this side of the pond.
