Minecraft Features Detailed, Undergoing Denial of Service Attacks

By Brian Leahy, Oct 21, 2010 1:20pm PDT Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson has released some additional details about the game's planned Halloween update.
There are six new block types (five of them have unique abilities), one new monster, a new dimension, and a couple of bug fixes. Once I get the portals working, I'll have something very interesting going and I'll spend the rest of the time leading up to the release adding new smaller features and polishing stuff.

Notch later explained on Twitter that "you will eventually be able to link servers with portals," though the timing of that feature is an emphasized "NOT SOON."

Persson's company Mojang Specifications has found an office and has grown to six employees with three programmers, a pixel artist, CEO, and a business developer.

Minecraft.net has also been coming under some Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Kotaku has dug up a 4chan post claiming to take responsibility for the attacks, but the authenticity is uncertain. According to the post, the attacks are happening because gamers want more frequent updates from Notch.

  • You have to understand, when you have a fan base, and they really really want something like an update, and you don't give it to them forever, that's disrespectful to people.

Now there are some people you don't want to disrespect. People who've earned a position in society and who appreciate you refraining from jumping all up and dissin me and my homies out in front of everybody, bitch I got a botnet that will fuck you and your mom and you've done stepped over the line. Surprise gangsta, drop a bomb on your face! You don't fuck with the l33t, the l33t fuck back! Service Denied, punk!! You're falling off the internet like a little bitch!

    Wait, what happened?
