Captain America: Super Soldier Announced for 2011

SEGA revealed today that classic Marvel superhero Captain America is bringing his mighty shield to video game consoles in 2011, by way of Captain America: Super Soldier.

In 'Super Soldier,' Marvel's most outwardly patriotic hero will face off against Nazi villain Red Skull and his army during "the darkest days of World War II." Red Skull has also enlisted help from the likes of other super-baddies such as Hydra, Iron Cross, and evil wartime scientist Arnim Zola. The third-person adventure will include both action-based combat and platforming elements.

Captain America's trademark shield will also factor prominently into gameplay. The original 'Avenger' will be able to use it for things like "taking out multiple enemies at once, deflecting incoming fire back at enemies, solving puzzles, and scaling walls."

With a script written by comic, film, and TV writer, Christos Gage, the game will have a "setting [that] exists within the same world as the upcoming movie of the same name," though it won't simply attempt to mirror the events depicted in the film.

Captain America: Super Soldier is due out sometime in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, and PSP.
