Borderlands GOTY Edition Grants Early Access to Eventual Duke Nukem Forever Demo

You guys realize you get the stuff if you have borderlands on steam... right?

If you already own it on Steam:
1.) Right click on "Borderlands" game.
2.) Select "View game CD key"
3.) Duke's key is in there.
4.) Pat yourself on the back.

I am all in!

I've already got BL and 3 of 4 DLC. I'll get the 4th eventually. But spending an additional ~$50 for a demo of a trainwreck doesn't sound like best use of my gaming dollars.

so having borderlands + all the dlc already get us.... ?

Duke Nukem deserves better than this...

I find it humorous that DNF is in development for 15 years, to now be used as a marketing ploy to get people to buy a rehashed GotY edition of a different game.

That urinal in the demo isn't the only thing getting pissed on.

I very much enjoyed taking a chance on Borderlands when it was released. It was the first game in a long time I just bought, without having played a demo or waited for reviews. And it was a great game that I've spent a lot of time playing. I even bought all the DLC at release and have more or less enjoyed that too. Having said all of that, I'm not going anywhere near the decade-old Duke Nukem forever unless I play a demo first. And if 2K doesn't want to give me a demo, that's to their detriment, not mine.

Is the GOTY edition of Borderlands not enticing enough that Gearbox had to tack on an early DNF demo to get people to buy it?

No thank you. I've waited 13 years, I can wait a little longer rather than get sucked into buying a game I don't even want.

Only reason to want the demo badly is cus it's not widely available. That's "exclusivity" for ya.

Sure. That means that people who already own Borderlands, and maybe people who pre-ordered it before it was out, will also get the demo, right?

GearBox has turned into a money grabbing whore, this is just plain stupid... Using this game to sell their 2nd DLC box of BL, yes SECOND. Sad Gearbox sad.... Why not offer the loyal buyers of your game something free?

Well that sucks. Way to stick it to the loyal fans who already bought your game on release and every one of your expansion packs. (not that I'm one of those, but still...)

What a load of bullshit. I pre-ordered this game the day it was available on Steam, and have all the DLC except the Claptrap one. I'm definitely not paying $50 for one DLC episode and early DNF beta access. Way to piss off your customer base, Gearbox.

Genius, pure genius. Playing on the emotions of gamers to get them to pay $60 for a game they probably own already.

Grreaaat move by 2k. Always a great move by 2K. Everything they did with Mafia 2 and Civ 5 was so great, it makes me feel like I want to buy their games at least three times from different vendors just to get that one little more thingy that they sell.

Sorry, cant stand it anymore. No more money going to 2K for a while until they stop nickel n dime everyone and learn how to actually treat the customers right and that way, still make money.

Because our wonderful friends at 2K will likely be reading some of these responses...I'll outline the following:

Good marketing: "Thanks for being a loyal customer...here is access to DNF. Also if your friends who don't own Borderlands wish to buy it, then we'll give it to them as well! Tell everyone about this so you can all enjoy it together, and then DNF demo when it comes out too!"

Bad marketing: "Thanks for being an early adopter. What have you done for us lately? Tell your friends to buy our game and we'll give them some DNF demo access. Maybe if you're lucky they'll share their demo account with you!"

At least that's how I feel, but what do I know? I'm no marketing major! However the guy that gets our coffee is, so I'll ask him if he agrees when he gets back from Tim Hortons.

Don't get your hopes up about a DNF demo, it will probably get the Civilization Demo treatment and go sorry to bust your balls buddy but its coming out on release days have fun with this 2 hour long play through video instead.

This is worse than the "pre-order our game to get beta/demo access" stuff that has become popular recently. Now they want us to buy an entirely different game (which a lot of us already own, but not "newest" version) to get access to the DEMO of a different game. No thanks!

I almost always buy the GOTY editions of the games I already bought + dlc but only once the GOTY/Full version is on the bargain bin. I don't tend to open these.

so I'm going to pay $49.99 for a Duke Nukem Forever demo.

This is just another company training people to wait for price drops before buying. This idea of GotY editions pairing DLC with the game makes me just wait for the complete game to come out before buying it. It's Lord of the Rings, where people didn't buy the DVDs because they were waiting for the extended edition.

So does this mean that the demo will also have some form of DRM in some sort of attempt to keep people from just distributing it themselves before the "public" release? Because, fyi, DRM on a free demo is fucking retarded.

What a bad idea, they should open it up for everyone that owns Borderlands, or even better, release it for everyone instead.
No one that owns Borderlands already is going to re-buy the GOTY edition just for this.
I's like to slap Scary right now and say;
