Minecraft Currently Free-to-Play, Fan-Made Trailer is Awesome [Updated]

When the patch dropped I said to myself "I'll just hop on real fast and check it out before I go to sleep." I spent the next 10 hours recreating the Dwarven halls from Lord of the Rings.

I never, never thought I'd get chills watching a trailer of an 8 bit game in 2010.

I watched my pal at work play this off and on for a few months, always rolling my eyes, and then tried it - and it's awesome. Amazing "virtual Lego" game that sucks you in as soon as you begin to learn enough of the game to create things.

you know what this game needs? some goal sets.
there should be a set of like 1k rare items spread out over the entire map... like crowns or gold or something to display... and maybe a way to build searcher bots that help locate the items.... dunno, games fun, but i can see all there is to see in the first 10 minutes (dont get me wrong, i love the atmosphere and the buildiing, but theres no real driver in it IMO)

the hardest part of this game is to convince your friends its amazing even with the 8bit textures

I cant play. I tried classic, and have been waiting to try singleplayer, but it just asks for a login, then tells me it cant connect. The register page is down too. Anyone else having that issue?

Predictions how long this takes to arrive on Steam and for Valve to take up hosting duties? That would be awesome.

I bought it, but my iMac could not run it at a framerate that seemed acceptable. They just need to optimize it and work on the bugs.

Reminds me of the construction mod from Tribes 2 and Garry's mod that came out after it. Really a ridiculously player driven game. I suppose you are only limited by your creativity, but that doesn't do it for me, much like other people.

If no one ever sees your work what's the point? If you just post a screenshot on a website that doesn't do it nearly as much justice as having actually explored it. No one is going to get a feel for what you've done or the accomplishment associated with it. I know there was a mod for HL2 that was basically the same thing and a lot of people talk about other people vandalizing their work.

I can see the draw to something like this, but it's simply not for me and guessing a lot of other people. I rather play something like Simcity that is more structured and actually has radicals to interact. The sims is another good example.

Going even further this looks like a cheap version of Spore, you know that one hit wonder no one talks about anymore?

I've played Minecraft 'classic' on the website and I can state that it's one of those games I will not play simply because it's the kind of game that, if I do start playing, I'll just fall in love so hard that I won't have time for anything else.

Just tried it for a bit and was having fun just exploring and digging holes and tunnels but it really needs a tutorial just so you know what you can do.
I found a cave and it got super dark going in just a little ways so I started digging side tunnels to let in light but then the sun set and got even darker heh.

So thats where a tutorial would be nice. Can I get light sources and if so where? How do you craft? Is there really any point besides the big sandbox feel? How about a shovel?

It needs some basic things like an install path of where it downloads things but I am going back now.
Has some unexpected cool things like when i dug through sand the tunnel collapsed. Was great heh.

I finally started playing this and spent at least 12 hours playing it this weekend. I love this game. So worth every bit of hype it's been getting.

One hour later, I realized what happened.

I think I love this game.

Man I love this game, I bought it and have probably played over 20 hours on it already.

I've watched the trailer 4 times. I get chills every time.

haha, oh so this is the "Daily minecraft" thread game... I always thought u guys were talking about the old windows game that u look for mines underground.

Someone should make a whole city like in Inception. That would be really cool.
