      The Communists were actually our allies during WWII. The South Vietnamese was a dictatorship that supported capitalism and the US, and actually represented a small amount of the Vietnamese population as a whole. The Vietcong were fighting since the end of WWII since the French regained control of the nation after WWII and continued its colonial practices. They were under the assumption that by helping fight the Japanese they would be deemed a sovereign nation. Most people in America were against the war. There was no reason to invade, no threat to the United States, and nothing good came of it. The Gulf of Tonkin was actually a falsified event by the US government to justify going to war. Read up on your facts please, and these are all facts by the way, which quick research in a book or online would provide. Declassified documents prove Tonkin was a set up. Learn about something before spouting political nonsense.
