  - Fire up your gas stove + cast iron skillet for 10 minutes or so on high and check the temps in different areas of the skillet. Mine hits just shy of 800 degrees.
  
  - Check temps in your freezer(s) and in different areas. I was surprised to find my $140 Costco/Kirkland freezer is far colder (around -20) than my $$$$ Kenmore Pro (around -8)
