Shogun 2: Total War Trailer Shows 'Gameplay'

Shogun 2: Total War's publisher Sega might be overly generous in describing this new trailer as "gameplay" but it certainly is a fine display of the strategy sequel's graphics.

We had a gander at Shogun 2 during E3 2010, where developer The Creative Assembly explained its plans and goals for the strategy game set in feudal Japan. Improved land and naval battles are promised--as is customary for a new Total War title--as well as a more thoughtful style of play that doesn't involve simply swarming your foes.

Shogun 2: Total War is scheduled for release on PC in 2011.

While this looks cool, it feels like a step backwards frankly. I'd been hoping they'd continue to refine and improve on the work they did with Empire, and make another gunpowder age game. Going back to swords and axes and the like just feels weak.

Still waiting on Warhammer 40K: Total War. :)

It's amazing that even a strategy game has graphics that look so good up close these days. Technological progress rules.

as much as I love this series, every time they release a video the combat is always waaaay more fluid than I've ever found in-game. I do like how they are actively paying attention to art direction now.

Remember that it is real time, not that the game is actually going to play like this.

Cannot wait, the S2TW promotional stuff gives me such a huge dose of nostalgia for the original game... Especially in the older trailer when they use some of the same music.
