So I'm downloading Borderlands. What can I expect? Do I need a core group to play this with or can I hop in / out with random folks? Do we all need to be within the same level range or can the levels vary without it being unrewarding / boring for anybody?

I can only imagine random folks would just be tweakers running out ahead of you looting everything, much like Diablo.

I played with more or less the same 3 people all the way through. I think that works best

best with a group, even two people still felt a bit lonely to me, good dungeon crawl

You can jump in with random folks. It might be a little rough for you, but it will greatly accelerate at the rate you level. My character was like level 22, and within a few sessions, my friend was nearly caught up to me around level 25 or so.

It's plenty of fun with only 2 people. I would just find a buddy and play with him

The game scales pretty well. Both difficulty and loot increase with higher level characters. You can level up faster and find better loot if you play with a higher level party.

im tempted about buying this, but some friends told me that the game was made
for consoles first and pc was kinda glitchy.

      the price...is tempting

I would find one to three people to play through with. Randos are kind of lame and the game doesn't really hit its potential without some friends.
