Final Fantasy XIV Gets E3 Media, Benchmark Test

Final Fantasy XIV developer Square Enix has released a bumper crop of goodies for the MMORPG in the form of an E3 trailer and screenshots as well as an in-engine benchmark test allowing PC gamers to test how well their system will run the game.

Available in a 172MB download from FileShack, the benchmark test inserts a character of the viewer's choosing into several in-game cinematic scenes--some more dramatic than others--while tracking FPS with a graph and rating overall performance.

Final Fantasy XIV is due to be released on PC and PlayStation 3 later this year. Until then, enjoy the benchmark and the fancy E3 trailer following below.

I've been playing FFXIV for about a month now (semi-closed Alpha). Besides the obvious stability and performance issues that come with an Alpha game build, it is a total blast to play! Combat is really cool, every attack is queued which leaves nearly infinite types of fighting styles, especially at higher levels. Of course all the depth of economy, equipment, crafting, quests, missions is there just like it was in FFXI. Great game, if you are reading this you have this random internet stranger's advice to keep an eye on this great game in the making.

964 on my pentium 4 3.4 ghz, 1.5gb DDR, with an HD3850.

This was running in windowed mode, so I know I could get a higher score if I could run full screen and turn off some post-processing effects. I don't know if I'd actually want to play the game anyway, I'm not a fan of most MMO's.

WTF are these numbers? I got around 2300 on High and it was pretty smooth the whole time. Why not just give us FPS? Those Japanese and their crazy systems.

I only got 2500, which is pretty frustrating. I have a radeon HD 4800, i7 quadcore (hyperthreading) and 8 gigs of ram. I guess the video card is too old (1 year) :(
