Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days E3 2010 Preview

QUICKTAKE: Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is packing a lot of improvements over its predecessor. The story, straight out of a Michael Mann film, finds our anti-heroes in Shanghai with 48 hours to set things right after a heist goes horribly wrong. The team at IO Interactive focused on improving aiming & shooting, the cover system, and the enemy AI. At the same time, IO added online co-op and expanded the multiplayer offering.

While I had seen Kane & Lynch 2 earlier in its development, it's showing more polish at E3 2010 and I finally got my hands on the game for the first time. The shooting is definitely much crisper and the button-based cover mechanic goes a long way to helping the game's playability.

On the multiplayer side, the first game's "Fragile Alliance" mode will return, beginning as a co-op bank heist until players go rogue in an attempt to grab more cash for themselves until one man is left standing. This mode will now be playable offline with AI bots. Additional online modes will also be available including a team deathmatch mode pitting cops against robbers and a variation of Fragile Alliance that adds an undercover cop into the mix.

The undercover cop will be chosen at random and his duty is to make sure than none of the crooks escape, but keep his cover as long as possible. It adds a layer of paranoia to the gametype and should be a lot of fun.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be released on August 24 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

This definitely looks like a huge improvement over the first game.
