Japan Gets 3D PS3 Games on June 10

by Brian Leahy, Jun 01, 2010 11:00am PDT

Andriasang reports that Japanese PS3 owners will gain access to 3D gaming on June 10, following some patching or purchasing of downloadable games.

WipEout HD and Super Stardust HD

The initial offering is WipEout HD, Super Stardust HD, and Pain. The latter will require an additional purchase to unlock 3D support for around $3.

Additionally, customers that purchase 3D-enabled Sony Bravia televisions will receive these three titles for free along with an exclusive 3D demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.

This is line with a previous report dating the 3D Bravia televisions with three free 3D PS3 games in June for Europe. No plans have been set for the United States at this time, but it would follow that June (and E3) would be a good time to launch 3D gaming.

  • Could use a lil advice from someone who's paying more attention to the 3d market than I care to.

After hanging onto his sdtv for 15+ years, my dad has decided to dive into the HDTV realm. He's been looking at a Panasonic plasma 3D hdtv and a PS3 as his bluray player. He knows he'll probably never use the 3D...but I certainly might when I visit. Does anyone know if Panasonic's 3D tech is compatible with 3D PS3 games and/or ps3 3d bluray discs?

Basically...is there a format war happening within the 3D television market or has it been standardized across brands? If there's a war...i'll probably tell him to wait for Sony's 3Dtv...
