Rumor: Project Natal Priced at $149

As the rumor mill continues to churn about the Xbox 360's upcoming motion-tracking add-on Project Natal, online publication Edge is the latest to contribute, claiming the device itself will sell at $149 and come bundled with an Xbox 360 Arcade unit at $299.

The outlet credits this information to "a trusted source," with the phrase linking back to when Edge published Gears of War 3 details before the game was announced.

Edge's source further claimed that Project Natal will be released in October and will receive a new moniker at E3 2010, which runs from June 15 through June 17, 2010.

Officially, Microsoft has yet to unveil a price or a specific release date for Project Natal other than "holiday 2010." When asked for comment on Edge's report, the company responded that it "does not comment on rumour or speculation."

For Microsoft's sake, I hope this isn't true. A huge amount of their market is going to be people who already own a 360 and they absolutely aren't going to pay $150 for it.

Even if they take a loss on the hardware, they should do it to get their foot in the door against the Wii.

Yeah. the sweet spot is $80 imo. Any higher than that the early adopters (ie us) are gonna laugh at the price, it won't take off, and natal will fail. My guess is Microsoft is floating these rumors so it can come out with the price point of $100 and people will say "at least it's not $150." But then I won't be getting it unless there is some sort of revolutionary must-have game (like Halo was for Xbox1).
