Age of Conan Expansion 'Rise of the Godslayer' Coming in May

Age of Conan's oriental expansion pack 'Rise of the Godslayer' will be released on May 11, developer Funcom announced today, and will be available both digitally by itself and in a retail bundle with the base game plus a selection of in-game virtual goodies.

Rise of the Godslayer brings the MMORPG to the exotic Asian-themed Empire of Khitai, "where an ancient traditional culture clashes with dark forces." Sounds like bad news.

The jolly 'Kara Korum' area.

"New gameplay features" are also promised, "such as an alternate advancement system, factions, and even new mounts that are an integral part of the storyline."

Pre-ordering nets you the first of "a new form of in-game pet that aids players in battle."

Part of the problem of bringing the world of Conan to video games is that the source material encompasses most of the globe except north/south america and australia. Khitai is supposed to be China however most of the countries that are in between khitai and the original game still arent in the game. kind of breaks the immersion in a game that's already heavily instanced. still it was fun when I played it at release. hopefully this will peak gamers interest enough that they can justify more expansions

this was my favorite mmo since EQ. but one early change in particular made me dump it: making the elites always so, even when you outlevel them by a lot. basically forced grouping to enjoy the latter half of the content. they can kiss it.

I actually really enjoyed AoC when it came out, probably spent more time playing it than any other MMO. But I'm not 100% sure whether I will be drawn back in by the expansion... I'll wait and see I guess.

The digital expansion is only $24.99 if you order it from them. This assumes you already own the original AoC.
