Evening Reading: FPS Fever!
by Brian Leahy, Apr 14, 2010 5:00pm PDTThis morning, Take-Two announced that 2K Marin is developing an FPS game based upon X-COM. The outrage was palpable.
I'm willing to give 2K Marin a chance here. I'm sure this is a move meant to echo Bethesda's work with the Fallout franchise, which led to the creation of Fallout 3.
Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of Todd Howard and Bethesda's work than 2K Marin's, but we'll see what the studio can cook up.

Also one could argue that you could park your squad in a corner in any of the Rainbow or Ghost Recon games and do everything solo.
Yes you could argue. But there was also a benefit to co ordinating them yes?
I always tried to take advantage of sweep and clear orders in Vegas, taking things from multiple entry points and whatever, never felt like I had made a big difference. Nor did I feel like I was solving a tactical problem. I take a lot more time assessing and planning in Crysis than I do in any of the new Tom Clancy games.
I was never huge into the original Rainbow games, so maybe their tactical elements were awful and dumb always, I never really tested them that deeply. What I do know from playing Vegas through is that its biggest claim to fame is having a cover system that has you hold down a button to get in and out of it. Otherwise it works like any other modern shooter to me and doesn't require any special skills on my part that MW, Gears, or any of these other take-cover-aim-for-head games don't demand.
