Lead and Gold Media: That Is Indeed a Trap

by Alice O'Connor, Mar 22, 2010 5:50am PDT

With the PC release of Lead and Gold fast approaching, developer Fatshark has rustled up a trailer showing off the wild west shooter's Trapper class and several new screenshots.

Lead and Gold - Gangs of the Wild West will be released for PC on April 8 for $15 but pre-ordering on Steam will net you varmints a 10% discount as well as instant access to the ongoing beta. If you require more encouragement, see what our yellow-bellied, lizard-lickin' Brian thought of the game.

Downloadable Xbox 360 and PlayStation releases are also due soon.

  • The game looks cool and it's a small developer and it's cheap so I bought the beta.

The big problem is no ded servers. It's all P2P, and what ends up happening is that a lot of folks play a game, host it and then quit, killing the server. Also the few (listen) servers that show are either on shitty connections or have people from all over the world playing, making this a lag fest.
Even when I host myself on a FIOS line, I get people from all over the world connecting, making this a no-fun zone.

Other than that, the maps are a little small, which together with the fast pace makes it feel a little claustrophobic.

It's a good $15 game, if the dedicated server were available. I recommend waiting for that before purchasing.
