Digital: A Love Story is a brilliant "computer mystery/romance set five minutes into the future of 1988." Centred around BBSs, Digital features love, hacking, phreaking, mystery and a whole lot of splendidness. I'm pushed for time so I can't write more but Amiga Power's Kieron Gillen wrote some nice words over on Rock Paper Shotgun. We have the Windows, Mac and Linux versions mirrored on FileShack.
This child says he is fat and nobody likes him but I do. He is a liar, which I don't like.
I forgot to mention earlier this week that a video replay of Team Liquid's first StarCraft 2 'Liquibition' exhibition match is now online. It is.

I will be going downtown sometime around 5 or so if anyone is planning on making it out and wants to meet up for a beer+shot or 30. I know a lot of you are afraid of crowds so please disregard, but I think a few had mentioned they might come out. I think we are first stopping by La Zona Rosa for a bit then will be wandering around wherever until I eventually make my way to a show at 11.

Months ago, a friend of a friend referred someone to me for a website.
We emailed back and forth, but she was too cheap to spring for a real website so I directed her to some pre mades.
Now just today on Facebook, I get a friend recommendation to add her. The only way to have gotten her name / email address would have been from my Gmail address book (which I only authorized when I first made a FB account) or if she had been making an account, done an address book import, and then decided not add me.
We have no mutual friends, not even through friends of friends. So how would FB know to recommend her? Seems odd.

What the hell is with this game? It looks nowhere near as good as Crysis, which is over two years old, and yet runs waay worse than Crysis has ever run on my quickly aging Q9400/GTX 260 system. How is this possible? Just terrible programing? Did anyone actually buy a new video card for this game?
I mean seriously, I don't think this game comes anywhere close to Crysis in terms of visual quality.

Was horrible though as she asked what was wrong with her... And all I could do was say that it wasn't what was wrong, but we had incompatible goals on this... It's a pretty big core component for her in the past few months... She's been crying for 20 mins, bawling. I wish I could say I was sorry... But she forced it. Ugh I feel like am ass.

Trying to remember the title of a short story I read a long time ago. The plot was something like this:
A pilot/group? of humans is on a deep space mission, looking for hospitable planets, but have so far been unable to find any nearby planets to Earth in tens of light years( I think. this detail is kind of important )
They eventually come upon a planet? and there are some aliens? or some kind of encounter, and they are told the following story:
There was once a civilization that was prosperous, and expanded to control a bunch of stars/planets, but there was a war of some kind with other civilizations, and one of the civilizations developed a weapon that blew up planets/stars. They used this weapon to basically seal in the originally belligerent species, as well as killing off all life/planets surrounding its home system, effectively penning them off from the rest of the galaxy.
The person/being telling this story mentions some detail about this empire cutting off an arm or hand? of its people/criminals? (I don't recall which.) The man being told the story, upon hearing this detail, recalls Earth's history of a civilization, (I think it was implied the Romans?) used to use this method of punishment, and begins to wonder if perhaps there was some connection with Earth not finding any hospitable planets and this story he is hearing.... at which point the being/alien telling him one of the consequences of that civilization being defeated is they don't get to expand, and the entire story ends with the implication that the aliens will kill the humans. (The big reveal at the end is that humans were once a vast galactic power, but got bombed to the stone age and had to start over, but are stuck in a holding pen/prison)
The story reminds me of The Crystal Spheres, by David Brin, but the details are different. Anyone got a clue who wrote this or the title? I'm thinking Clarke or Asimov, but going through their short stories hasn't turned up anything yet.

Patcher seemed busted so then I downloaded macports and compiled that version of wine-devel. Got everything installed/patched but when I run it all I see is the green cursor and a white screen. I can move the cursor around the screen and hear the buttons and see where it changes to text.
Tonight I'll futz with it some more. I will die before I install windows.

I know very little about them and I've never downloaded one before or used a kindle. I'm hoping to use my iPad to be a good reader. I obviously know I can use the apple store to purchase books but my question is about the .epub extension. Who sells the epub books and would those files work on the ipad? Can I just goto say barnes and noble an download .epub books and then sync them with the ipad? I know some of this is guessing as it's not out but I'm kind of curious how some of these other ereaders work as I'm guessing the ipad will be somewhat similar.

I'm probably doing it wrong. I bought the game and its just not fun, because I just run around and die. All the starting weapons are shit, they feel like peashooters. I'm a medic, and wtf? I can't even revive people or heal them yet? I'm just some dumbass with a gun that sprays bullets like you throw rice on a wedding, that is called medic but can't do anything to help the team?
I tried sniper, I can't hit ANYTHING. I aim on the torso or head on a completely still standing person, nothing happens.
Also I can't see where I can get what unlocks at what level in the game like I can in MW2? Or where is that?
And the progression in leveling up seems marginal. I played 3 matches and my bar is not even half full. Does that mean that I have to first die a few hours so I can do anything helpful for the team, like healing people or repairing things, or choosing a weapon that is better suited?
I've played for 2 hours and every round basically looks like this: Spawn.. run around a bit... TAC TAC TAC... dead from somewhere.
And whats with the shitty kill cam? You always see the person from the front and can't look around or anything, so that you get no orientation to see where he actually stands.
Seriously, what pisses me off the most is that the starting weapons are so bad, I pump a whole magazine into a person and he one shots me with a shotgun.
I'm a mechanic but I can't repair things. I am a medic but I can't heal or revive people.
How I said, its maybe because I'm doing it wrong, but I'm a good FPS player usually, Here I just wander around aimlessly and get my ass handed to me. Can somebody explain me how to start? When do I get unlocks? Does it really take that long to get new items or is it just me?
Help shack :( I wanna enjoy this, but right now I feel like an industrial magnet running through a bullet factory.

Maybe it's the Steam platform, getting into games is super easy, there are many more people online than back in the day (2500-3000 compared to ~800)
Maybe it's the new economy model, I can understand the hardcore players missing the old economy model and the tiering, I myself miss the tiers (T3 was bad ass) but the simpler economy suits my brain much better.
I also decided not to play any skirmish and only play humans, I think that's working out better than I had hoped.

So I am finally getting around to using my codes that came with my DA game for the DLC of the Stone Prisoner and the Blood Armor. How do I use this? It says to enter the 25 digit code at the in game store and my card has only 20 digits for each DLC. Where else would I use this?

so wtf is my recourse here if the keys I have entered for 1942 and Vietnam say:
"key has already been used"
I am holding my "complete collection" in hand with all the keys listed on the manual
not to mention that for BF2 it wants me to remember my "gamespy ID" & password.
which I cant find anywhere on the gamespy site. or even remember what I chose.
or that 2142 wants me to login, and every ID i try doesnt work.

Protip, find all the air filters you can. Trust me. This game is unforgiving to say the least. I had to traverse top side to get to another underground tunnel, and the baddies swarmed me. It's fucking brutal. So I had to just run run run run and forget about fighting this mass wave of beasts. Search every body and grab all the ammo you can and conserve that shit.
Still trying to get top frames and make it look good. Messed around with the settings and the config file, and no luck. The only way to run it smooth it seems is to go DX9 with high to ultra settings. I hope to finish this game but FUCK ME it's tough. And the creatures that I have encountered so far are fucking ugly and would give kids nightmares.
