Over 5 Million Copies of Final Fantasy 13 Shipped; Overall Franchise Hits 96 Million
by Chris Faylor, Mar 10, 2010 10:20am PSTWith Square Enix's long-awaited role-playing sequel Final Fantasy XIII having just hit Europe and North America, the company passed along some shipment figures.
In all, over five million copies of Final Fantasy XIII have shipped since the PlayStation 3 version hit Japan in December 2009. Of that sum, the North American and European shipments of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions make up over three million.
As for the overall Final Fantasy franchise, which made its debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System way back in 1987, it has now shipped over 96 million units.
Of course, shipped isn't the same as sold. Still, 96 million is an impressive sum, especially as the very first was, according to its namesake, a Final Fantasy.
