I played and finished the first Stalker game, loved it. If I needed $$ I would just farm for weapons and sell them for whatever price to the merchants around the zone. Now however most of the weapons I find are shit and horribly damaged, that asshole Owl won't buy stuff that isn't in pristine condition, and the fixer-upper guy in the barge charges prices so high that I'd lose money repairing stuff and then selling it to Owl.
Is there a way to repair my own shit? I have about a billion krinkov's, shotguns, and AK-74's sitting in my stash, but most of them are all in yellow condition.

This is going to be a big wall of text. You have been warned.
I wasn't much of a Starcraft 1 player at all. I love watching Korean pro-matches and hearing commentary on them. I don't read many SC sites at all. I don't know special build orders and I don't have 200+ APM (or even close to 75 for that matter). I have never played a SC1 match over battle.net.
That said....Starcraft II is awesome....

While I sit here waiting for the audio of my podcast to process, I figured I would write up about my awesome session last night.
This was a big one (that's becoming a theme!) Last night was the first gameplay session of the Paragon tier. The week before we had our Paragon stories where each player explained what their character did during a year apart from the others.
They got to go Temple raiding. They found an ancient temple where they were told an ancient artifact (a crown) is hidden and must be destroyed. They were sent in with a wand primed with the magic to destroy the crown, so all they needed to do was physically get there.
The Temple was awesome. I managed to, in one session, fit in everything I think a good little dungeon should have: There was some interesting combat at the entrance, with staggered enemies (not all there in first round.) Then a huge area with no challenge but lots of things to look at and become intrigued by the place. The next area was a room with a deadly trap that spawned minions that had to be overcome by a combat+skill challenge encounter. Following was a long hallway with a crushing trap they had to overcome. Then there was a huge chasm separating them from their final destination, which they had to use some clever thinking to bypass. And then finally there was the room with the Crown, along with a super special event that I have been planning for a very long time. I actually won't spoil it here, and if you want to find out what it was you'll need to listen!
This session was also extra special because it was our first trial run of Live Video Broadcasting the entire session. It was a big hit! I totally forgot to post it here for anyone that wanted to stop by, but we got several people from Twitter and Facebook to watch. Many people tuned in for short whiles, and we even had probably about 8 people who watched the entire thing from beginning to end. We were able to answer questions in the chat and I think they had a really good time watching and chatting to the other viewers.
So, how is your D&D going?

It is way out of warranty so she wants to buy a new one instead of getting it repaired, if she buys an arcade can she just take her harddrive off and put it on the new one and then use their license transfer thing and everything will be normal?

Not only will the game drop your session (and kick you back to the start menu) if you lose your connection mid-game, but you will also lose all progress past the last save. If your router resets, game gets paused. If it takes long enough or you suffer an outage, aka, comcast customer, your game is over.
In addition, the game requires a 'maximum' bandwidth of 50kbps. So all you modem users can fuck off. (Well, all 3 of you who are left). Unfortunately, one of my best friends, living over in Parker TX, lives on his modem. So back to WoW for him.
Congratulations, Ubisoft, you unsold your game to me.

Yesterday a HDStarcraft vid was posted that touted 1080p and everyone was clamoring about it being 1080p, but when I clicked the link I was perplexed by why I didn't have that option. Then I noticed that it's because "&fmt=18" was added to the link. That actually kills any option of going higher than 480p...weird. In fact if you change it to "&fmt=22" that kills any option of going higher than 720p!
So, I realized that it was YouTube Embedinator adding the attribute to the link and I used my handy "ctrl+f" to take it out of the script, but if ThomW would be so kind and officially change that (since YouTube got their HD act together, kind of) that would be awesome.
<3 you ThomW...you're the best.
And the youtube vid at 1080p was amazing! I'll post it in reply.

-Consistently not afraid to make, huge, sweeping changes to their gameplay formula for each sequel, rather than just playing it safe (here's looking at you Blizzard, Infinity Ward, Bungie, etc, etc)
-Doesn't tease us about a release 3 damn years before we'll actually be playing it (here's looking at you Blizzard, Valve, etc etc).
-Stays true to hardcore PC gaming roots (*weeps tears of joy*)
Hooray for Firaxis!

Forget Starcraft II, come play this sweet game that is free on Steam for the weekend.
It is pretty damn fun. I love the extra axis of movement; there is nothing quite like sneaking under a guy, rolling into a strange angle for him to defend from, turning off your suit and stabbing the dude with your future space gun so he can ragdoll implode in his suit in zero g. I must be doing something wrong, cause sniping never works for me even It looks quite good, too, though my sadly aging processor can hardly handle it.
I really wish they had made a bigger production of it. I'd love a single player game set in this universe with more transitions to interior environments that a bit more cramped, a la Descent. The feeling it evokes when you turn your suit off is nuts, and it's cool to look up and see that Earth is the skybox.
Anyone else been enjoying it?

I'm making a game, and I want to have enemies move at different speeds. Up until now in my build, each game cycle the enemies would move + or - one pixel depending on the direction they were going. At first I thought, "well ill just increase the number of pixels they move per game cycle if they need to go faster", but that fucks things up because now they are skipping over parts of space which will throw off hit detection and the fact that they're supposed to stay within certain boundaries (that they will now just jump right over). In addition to this, I also really don't have a good way of making them go slower than the "move one pixel per game cycle" speed either if I do it this way.
So anyways, what is the "best practice" for movement speed of a sprite?
