Evening Reading: MonTuesday
by Garnett Lee, Feb 16, 2010 6:00pm PSTWhat happens on the Tuesday after a holiday Monday? You get two days worth of fun jammed into one action packed day at the office. The result left me buried in work without the time to write anything for ER. Instead you get a few links to the best Shack stories today. Should be back to normal tomorrow wielding a few thoughts to share and, with any luck, some links from around the Net.
Chatty: Diablo III, Dragon's Dogma
FileShack: Unity of Command, Skyjacker
Daily Filter: Planetside 2, Deadlight
Weekend PC digital deals: strategy-o-rama
38 Studios, Harry Potter Kinect - Shacknews Daily: May 25, 2012
So I was chatting with a buddy of mine about various programming languages and which languages are more marketable than others, and we had a difference in opinion, but both agreed that some of the most marketable languages are:
- c++
- c
- c#
- php
- python
What languges would you pick as most marketable and best to have on a resume?

What is it about human nature that makes most (generally crappy / new) players in multiplayer FPS games immediately resort to hiding? Specifically I'm thinking of quakelive but this really applies to every FPS game I've ever played.
It's something I just don't understand. Sure there are situations where hiding strategically can be a good idea but that doesn't occur near as often as the knee-jerk "Oh shit someone is shooting me! I'm gonna go hide in a corner," shit I see all the time. The funniest part is that this is pretty much the worst thing a player can do in many situations. Especially in team based situations where all hiding accomplishes is putting the team in a mismatch scenario.
I think the part that really makes me rage on this topic is how it inevitably goes. The team that is winning will hide less while the team that is losing will hide more. This results in the winning team demolishing the other team by an even greater amount than they were previously. I've seen this in all manner of games (quake, cs, tf, etc) and it frustrates me to no end.

I played the first two levels of the marine campaign and the single player is a lot of fun so far. The game is not optimized that well though. . At 30-40 fps(very high) it stutters horribly and is very hard to control. I was able to play through all of crysis at 25-35 fps but for me this game requires 60+(medium) to play decently : ( I have not tried the MP yet but i mainly got the game for the SP.
Here's some screenshots though. The aliens look fantastic!!

AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaAAAAAAAaaAAaAAGghghghg!
I and pretty much all of my friends have managed to get tickets to the free Rage Against The Machine gig in June. RATM are pretty much my favorite band....... in the world....... ever. It's all I used to listen to in school but they split before I had a chance to see them. Since they've done a couple of gigs in other countries and one in the UK that sold out in minutes.
This is gonna be so awesome

I wonder how sensitive this will be. I can imagine those idiots, who drive automatics with both feet, get into an accident because of this.

i know a lot of you love the full control of manual quicksaves, and i like them too, but i also like when a game saves intelligently every so often, possibly retaining the last three to five saves plus your manual.
i just lost a solid hour of gameplay because i walked into a trap and died instantly. "you should have saved". maybe. but when a game is really engrossing, i don't think about saving. i am immersed in the experience and not even thinking about the fourth wall. that's the sign of a great game; unfortunately, that also means i'll be re-doing 60+ minutes of dialogue, quests, and combat.

Basically, Armond White's views on films differ from the majority. The petitioners believe that his reviews are interfering with RT's Tomatometer and want them banned from the site.
You know, the site that's supposed to aggregate critic reviews.

Is there a way using the file copy function to copy a folder and have it only copy the files that arent at the destination? I think in Windows 7 you get presented with this option, but windows xp only asks if i want to replace and if i dont it cancels the whole thing

Jesus, is there anyone working on stuff like this any more? I generally don't see any ads from firefox, but the fact that people are stuck having to deal with that blows my mind.

Do they show up and drop it off if I'm not here or leave one of those notes to come pick it up?
