Crackdown 2 Demo Due Before Release

Good news, agent. While the Crackdown series has switched hands, freshly-founded start-up Ruffian Games plans to follow in the tradition of series creator Realtime Worlds and release a downloadable demo of the sequel prior to its retail debut.

"You can definitely expect a demo to hit Live before [Crackdown 2] is out," producer James Cope told IGN, "but I can't say when that will be... yet. The [original] Crackdown demo was fantastic and we want to carry on in that form."

But while there hasn't been a specific release date announced for the super-powered sequel, we do have a general idea as to when it'll arrive, as Microsoft recently listed Crackdown 2 among the Xbox 360 exclusives due in the first half of 2010.

I enjoyed the first Crackdown demo before its release so much that after purchasing the game I kept the demo on my HD, just so I could go back and quickly level up and destroy things again from scratch. When the Keys To The City mode was released in DLC I finally had no further use for the demo so I removed it, but damn- I've seldom had that much fun with a demo. Kudos to the new guys for trying to recreate even that aspect of the first game!
