Capcom Planning 'Gamer's Game' for Project Natal

Capcom is planning a "gamer's game" for Microsoft's motion-sensing Xbox 360 controller Project Natal, based on "perhaps a brand we haven't seen in a while," G4tv reports.

"What we're doing is creating it from the ground up for Natal," Capcom's VP of strategic planning and business development Christian Svensson told the site. "But it's... created from the ground up for Natal. We're not looking at Natal as 'okay, here's a little Natal gimmick that we've worked into some existing game.'"

"The approach is we're gonna make a 'gamers game' for Natal using something amongst our brand history," said Svensson. "I know [Mega Man creator and Capcom head of R&D Keiji] Inafune is really excited about it, he's been very vocal both in Japan and with the media about his vision of what Natal brings. I'm going to have to ask you to wait and see."

Microsoft recently announced that Project Natal will launch in the 2010 holiday season, though Svensson noted: "We're not going to be at launch....we're gonna cook something and it's gonna to take a while to cook." Games will most probably need to be designed with Project Natal support in mind, as it's unlikely that support will be patched into existing games--unlike with Sony's upcoming PlayStation 3 motion controller.

Even if they do make some amazing "hardcore game" for Natal, I realized how much I don't want Natal only one night ago.

I was tired, it was a long day, so I sat down at my computer and stayed up playing games. No jumping around and roundhouse kicking and cartwheeling in my tiny room.

I just don't see how I can "wind down" like that with Natal.

I can see it being neat for adventure games or experimental games. Games along the lines of what molyneux showed would be incredible. I don't want a hardcore game that I'm burned out on after 20 minutes of retard flailing in my living room.

You want the childporn game Milo? :)

I think and adventure like game that you control like the computers in Minority Report, or those panels in Avatar would be sweet.

A gamer's game does not have to have you "jumping around and roundhouse kicking"

By they're very nature Natal games WILL require much more movement than even swinging a wiimote, let alone a gamepad or K+M. The fidelity of Natal is likely to be such that fine movements of hands/fingers won't be enough to drive it properly. And reports of the Natal bar relying on the 360's processor to drive it will likely mean even less fidelity than when it was first announced.

There's only so much you can do with inputs when you're restricted to arm movements. At least without resorting to complicated hand gestures:

We're not all lazy bastards <3

.. I joke, I joke! But seriously, after a dull day of responsibility performing a kirk-roll to dive behind cover would actually brighten me up quite a lot.

It's really all up to the developer's response on how the Natal will operate. I only hope not every game is a flail-requiring gimmick.
