Cybertron in Render Form
Following up on last week's computer-generated teaser trailer, new details on High Moon's Transformers prequel "War for Cybertron" have emerged from publisher and studio owner Activision.

In keeping with traditions established by past Transformers efforts, players can approach the Decepticon-Autobot conflict from either side, with each offering its own campaign. "The AUTOBOT campaign tells a story of heroism to save their home planet against overwhelming odds," explained Activision. "The DECEPTICON campaign tells a story of an unquenchable thirst for power to control the universe."

Unlike past Transformers entries, however, Cybertron will sport "team-based online co-op" alongside "a variety of intense, online multiplayer game modes."

"The game transports players to a living, metallic planet where they will battle as giant converting robots in single player, online co-op or head-to-head multiplayer matches," Acitivision marketing head Rob Kostich summarized in today's press release.

Along with the expected PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions, Cybertron is also in development for Nintendo DS and Wii, with all versions due sometime in 2010.
