Xbox 360 Avatars Getting $3 Virtual Pets
by Chris Faylor, Dec 02, 2009 3:10pm PSTIf your Xbox 360 avatar appears unfulfilled despite a virtual closet packed with game-related paraphernalia and NFL jerseys, perhaps it's time for a pet?

You won't have to wait long, as Microsoft revealed today that twelve virtual companions, ranging from cats and dogs to ponies and monkeys, will be available through the Xbox Live Marketplace beginning tomorrow, December 3, at 240 MS Points ($3) each.
Those that don't feel like buying a virtual pet needn't feel left out, however. To celebrate the impending release of Final Fantasy XIII, Microsoft is giving away download codes for a Chocobo avatar pet to all those who register for one on the official site.
But if a Chocobo isn't your style, or you just don't feel like waiting for Microsoft to start sending out the codes, this is what the virtual pet store will be stocking tomorrow:
Large Dog - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Pug Dog - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Dog in Bag - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Cat - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Siamese Cat - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Long Haired Cat - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Goldfish - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Guinea Pig - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Pony - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Monkey - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Bird - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)
Snake - 240 Microsoft Points ($3)

For that many Microsoft “if it’s not real currency you won’t care†Points you could buy three full Xbox Indie Games. But who wants that when you can have a dog in a handbag that you can show your virtual friends? All this shows me is that Microsoft have got all the money they can out of my demographic and are moving on, and they don’t care who knows it.
