Star Trek Online Trailer Probes Ship Combat Tactics

Star Trek Online developer Cryptic Studios has released the second part of its space combat trailer series, this time touching on the MMORPG's Star Wars: X-Wing-style energy management, as well as boarding enemy ships to disrupt their systems.

Currently in closed beta, Star Trek Online will receive a two-week open beta in January before launching for PC in North America on February 2 then Febuary 5 in Europe.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be the Star Wars Galaxies of the Star Trek Universe. Then we would have to wait many years for someone like Bethesda to make what we really wanted.

Hrmm, is this game going to be just about Ship to ship battles? What about exploration, resource collecting, alliance making? What about running into strange Aliens and diplomacy? Star Trek to me is not about ship combat; that's only a small piece of it.

Can you board the enemy ships? The correct answer is "no you can just throw cheesy little shuttles at them". This has fail all over it.

- It is separated but it looks like there is still phaser fire coming from the now non-existent part of the... : Crimsonbeak
