First Prince of Persia Movie Trailer Debuts (Updated)

From aesthetics to tone, this looks like its riffing on the first of the Brendan Fraiser "The Mummy" movies. If this film can achieve even that level of success, it would be a major coup for future video game adaptations.

It has the same kind of 'look' as The Mummy and Pirates of the Carribean movies. Probably just as dumb. Pass.

There are far too many "i'm being cynical because I think it makes me look intelligent / different" comments about this.

Let's be realistic.

The majority of people in this world thought Pirates of the Caribbean, Black Hawk Down and Remember the Titans were good movies. This is the only video-game-turned-movie adaptation to have anything to do with the original creator (with the slight exception of Silent Hill w/ Akira Yamaoka, who is not the creator but is close, and a niche movie was created for a niche game audience), and it has a high production value.

Cons? generalized statements about a movie we know nothing about in 320x160 resolution. Bravo shack. Snooty "frontpager" insults are yet again useful here.

Action scenes look awesome, but by god I hope that dialogue was 'expanded' for the trailer and won't actually sound that stilted.

Gay. I wish it looked more polygonal and pixelated. Doesn't do the game justice at all. Not to mention it's a generic action flick.

If it were up to me, this film would focus on the rise and fall of the persian empire, really taking a close look at the socioeconomic landscape, along with my contention that the Zoroastrian religion was ultimately the key to it's demise- The Zoroastrian gods did not share the same nature with men, like the greek gods, and hence the people's connection to the religion was less relatable. It was a marketing problem. The empire could have expanded if not for this notion.

Within this particular theme, obviously, there would be some character development that at least had some relevance to the Prince of Persia story.

Anyways, when i think Prince of Persia, I think about a really heady philosophical endeavor. Maybe if this movie was approved by mensa, I might watch it.

Can barely tell from the quality of a small YouTube video, but I will say that at least this game-to-movie is getting proper attention / budget and the game's creator is completely involved. That's gotta count for something.

I liked it better when it was called Generic Epic Movie.

Assassins Creed + Cool Effects = this movie.

Sands of Time was hardly Citizen Kane in terms of videogame storylines but it was a good action filled romp so the cheesy set up doesnt bother me all too much.

What I'd love though is to use that dagger to go back in time and tell show the maker of prince of persia (Im not attempting to spell his last name) 20 years ago what would eventually come out of his little game.

Who wants to bet this turns into "the summer trilogy" for the next few years.

looks entertaining and certainly looks like jerry bruckheimer stuff. though i couldnt help but sort of smirk like a jackass when the arrow goes by the prince as he's leaping building to building (@ 2:14), in way that i thought was supposed to imply he's agile and he's cool and he dodged it. when in reality the guy that shot at him just missed. sadly there's no air-dodge in real life. maybe a tummy-suck i guess.

Looks pretty good, doesn't seem to follow the plot of the game much, but it at least looks like a fun movie to watch.

The Sands of Time's storyline was told really well, especially liked the ending, it wasn't so much "cheesy" as just had the myth/folk tale feel to it. This just seems like an over the top action movie with comedy bits.

I'm guessing it'll be fun but forgettable right the next day.

Humor is doable. Perhaps a jump he knows he can make, but misses the first time. As he plummets off-camera, time rewinds and he comes back on, and remarks how he probably wouldn't attempt such a jump and moves on.

Or, maybe he'll go back in time and say some suave line instead of stammering.

I'm calling it. Prince of Persia. Temporal comedy of the year 2010.

I would complain about the excessive use of special effects, but then again the ip originates in video games so I guess it's allowed...

this must be pretty damn cool for j mechner, i mean look at how long since the first pop was made.. i was playing that in high school on an apple 2 e back in 1991... that first game was the best, nothing since compares or is as fun, the latest game was just boring i quickly lost interest ... as for the movie, i'd definitely add it to my netflix queue when it comes to dvd/br..

oh great... Ben kingsly finds his way again in a game adaption... no suprises there...

Its too epic... can't they make a game adaptation that keeps it on a smaller scale but is actually believable?

This is looking good to me.
From the trailer they seemed to have put in the good elements from the PoP series and then created their own story around it. Though I feel like they borrowed from SoT the most (which is awesome).

This has the potential to be the best video game movie by far.

I'd just like it to be as good as Pirates of the Caribbean (the first, not the third)

well, the trailer was a bit confusing... maybe not quite what was in the game, but i saw wall to wall jumping so i tentatively approve

Uncharted The Movie for summer 2012?

I had hope for this for a long time, but then again I also didn't know that Jerry Bruckheimer was behind it. This looks like Pirates of the Carribean meets Prince of Persia, and it looks awful.

I would say this doesn't seem to follow the plot of Sands of Time all that closely, the I remembered that TSOT barely had a plot to begin with, but if the basic elements are there, it seems good.
