Lionhead Planning Microtransaction Store for Fable 3
by Nick Breckon, Oct 22, 2009 3:10pm PDTIn addition to announcing Natal support for Fable 3 during his BAFTA talk yesterday, Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux also mentioned plans to bring a microtransaction store to Fable 3.
Molyneux said that smaller items such as swords will be sold for around 1 euro at the store, while noting that land masses on the order of Knothole Island will obviously be pricier, according to That VideoGame Blog
In addition to game content, Molyneux also suggested that Lionhead was considering selling game walkthroughs through the store--though he not-so-shockingly admitted that many of these ideas may not come to fruition by the time the game is released.

Most of the DLC makers are missing the point--what gamers want is something that adds to the story and makes the base game even better. Instead they shovel some goodies and a new side-quest shortly after release, but then they run out of energy and just go back to work on the next title. Remember all the new content we were supposed to get for Mass Effect? Same deal with Fable II. Both those games were just crying for fuller expansions.
Maybe I should just forget the 1990s and be a "good consumer" instead.

All items are obtainable in game with both game currency and real currency. By spending real currency you are able to get the weapon with the amount of effort it takes you pull out a credit card. In the real game, the weapons must be earned with cash and/or rep. Of course, to get the uuber weapons it may take 10 hours of game work, or 5 dollars, whichever you prefer.
This works well because it allows all gamers to enjoy the game in their own way, whether it be by choice or by circumstance.
For example: I had a friend who used to play Super Smash Bros blindfolded for a challenge, and played the entire halo trilogy through a mirror on legendary. He didnt do this because he was epic, but rather because he was so broke he couldnt afford bargain games, and the one game he did get he played the hell out of because he had a real passion for gaming. Now, if he were to choose to spend his next xmas wad completely on getting fable III, and found out he needed more money to fully enjoy the game, i can imagine he would be very upset.
I on the other hand, dont care about worthless gather-em-up quests and such, (See: The flags in Assassins Creed) so I would rather spend a few bucks to get a weapon that I KNOW I will never earn otherwise.
And of course it would only be fair to make his sword blue and mine green, so when we played online, everyone knew he was dedicated and I am just a lazy bum.
