Left 4 Dead 2 Expected to Be Fastest-Selling Valve Game Ever, Gets $25M Ad Campaign
by Chris Faylor, Oct 05, 2009 12:00pm PDTGabe Newell--president of Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead developer Valve--has declared that "based on the strength of pre-orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest-selling product in Valve's history."
The statement came as part of today's revelation that the November 17-due PC and Xbox 360 shooter will be backed by a $25 million ad campaign. The original, released last year, had a $10 million ad budget. Valve noted plans for a "more aggressive" European campaign spanning television and outdoor ads in more cities and markets.
"Left 4 Dead 2 has consistently run at 300% of Left 4 Dead's numbers," Newell added, with marketing VP Doug Lombardi clarifying that "Left 4 Dead 2 has already set the record for greatest number of pre-orders in our company's history."

A fitting end for what I think was a lame movement by a bunch of crybabies. The last thing I'll say about the people supporting the boycott... I would be willing to bet that NONE of them would be willing to go to work for free. Yet think about what you're doing, you're boycotting a company because they didn't want to work for free as much as you wanted them to. Last time I checked, Valve was not a non-profit charity. Funny that some people think that games and game content should be free, I know I would be pretty bummed about showing up to work everyday if I wasn't getting paid for it, why should a game company be any different?

And you know at least half of the dumb dumbs who "boycotted" are going to end up buying the game anyway.

I'm not pleased this is a full money game, but the 4 pack makes it totally worth it.

Valve is one company that you can count on to over-promise and under-deliver. Expect your promised L4D2 content or "DLC" to be announced shortly after L4D 3 is released next November.
