Left 4 Dead 2 Pre-orders Get 10% Off
by Chris Faylor, Oct 02, 2009 4:30pm PDTThrowing yet another pre-order incentive into the mix, Valve today announced that those who pre-order Left 4 Dead 2 from "participating retailers" will get 10% off the game.
The offer brings the PC version to $45 and the Xbox 360 edition to $55. Of course, the company's own PC digital distribution outlet Steam is among those participating.
The developer is also offering those who preorder an exclusive melee weapon, the American baseball bat, and early access to the demo. Valve utilized similar techniques for the first Left 4 Dead, with pre-orders getting early demo access and a discount.
The controversial zombie shooter sequel hits PC and Xbox 360 on November 17.

The whole point of Left 4 Dead is that it's meant to be replayed over and over again. So if you beat it once and declare that the game sucks because there isn't more content for you to play, then you don't really understand what Left 4 Dead is all about.

So the question arrises...grab it now for $45, or $30 in 3 months when it eventually goes on sale?

i guess Gabe wants to refrain from the word episodic, then you can't charge full price.

and i just don't see how they keep l4d1 and l4d2 as separate communities in the long run. I mean the games are so similar that it isn't hard to see them port the l4d1 campaigns and characters to l4d2's engine and BOOM you have a combined game.
This is BS from valve. I bet a bunch of l4d2 code is the same as l4d1 code. I don't care that they did 5 new campaigns and some melee weapons and new guns and characters and bad guys. all this is just taking l4d1 and loading it up with stuff they could have been releasing as dlc every couple of months since l4d1 came out.
50% off for previous l4d owners who pre-order!! we need to demand that!

Any game that garners this much free press has to have something going for it.
I suspect in the end the boycott group will claim credit for anything that happens. Be it a profitable adventure or not. If it fails they can (rightfully) claim they had an impact. It it's hugely successful they can say THEY changed Valve and made the game better for their efforts.
In the end the ones really smiling are the Valve employees...
