New PlanetSide Planned
by Chris Faylor, Sep 28, 2009 9:20am PDTSony Online Entertainment has revealed plans to followup up its massively multiplayer first-person shooter PlanetSide (PC) with a new game set in the same universe.
The original PlanetSide and a feedback survey for the next one."We plan to expand the PlanetSide universe with another game and we need your help with the design," reads a mass e-mail recently sent to current and former players. "Don't worry about the original PlanetSide, it isn't going anywhere."
The e-mail, republished by PlanetSide Universe, points to a survey that asks about various gameplay mechanics plus other MMO and FPS games. In addition, PSU points out that SOE recently acquired PlanetSide2.com and notes that SOE president John Smedley recently teased "PlanetSide Next" via Twitter. Thanks to Hamma for the tip.

But I'm really really bummed its SOE doing it again...
But its about damn time someone took a look at the MMOFPS market.
Planetside and WW2Online where the ONLY mmofps ever created.
and the market for it is HUGE.
I do truly welcome an updated version of either one.

I loved the game, played it for around 3 years solid.

I think one of the major problems is lack of coordination within empires. It's almost impossible to pull the zerg away from a battle, regardless of how urgent a problem may be. I'm not sure how to fix this. The CR5s are a joke nowadays. Most of the global command chat is homoeroticism, ego stroking and other juvenile look-at-me BS. Maybe there should be a way to occasionally enforce strategic orders, and some better way of controlling who has access to global command chat.
Another problem is the temporary nature of capturing territory. Although I've largely made peace with this issue I think it turns a lot of other people off. Maybe there could be a way for CR5s to vote for an owned territory that would stay locked. Additionally, add more continents to make up for the locked territories.
There have to be ways to fix this game. It's fun at it's core, but it gets old after awhile.
Really enjoyed it.
But not $15/month worth of enjoyment...

I give Sony credit for keeping the game alive despite the very low numbers of people still playing. The game should be awesome with new visuals and physics.

If they could of fixed this 1 simple oversight, everyone would still be playing right now.

I'm surprised there aren't more MMOFPS (or more probably MMOFPSRPG, since the RPG element (or some variant thereof, some kind of stats that reward continued play) is at the core of the addictiveness they will likely want in an MMO title) out there already, or in development.

And make the grind and reason for advancement so mundane and have no real connection to actually playing the game it makes me go to sleep so I can get up early.
No, I'm not bitter they killed my magmower.
