LucasArts Planning Many More Retro Remakes, Re-releasing Jedi Knight Next Week
by Chris Faylor, Sep 11, 2009 9:30am PDTWith LucasArts' recent remake of Monkey Island having "surpassed all of our expectations," studio president Darrell Rodriguez has now confirmed that "we plan to do much more of this, both on Steam and iPhone and other platforms in the future."
The revelation came during a GameTrailers TV interview, which also saw the LucasArts president speak on reissuing the Jedi Knight games and the potential of new entries in classic franchises, such as Grim Fandango and Indiana Jones.
"Jedi Knight series is coming next week as well," Rodriguez said of the old Star Wars-based PC shooter/saber-swinging franchise. Just before the Monkey Island remake hit, LucasArts began re-releasing vintage titles for use on modern systems.
As for new entries in beloved franchises like Grim Fandango or Indiana Jones, Rodriguez noted that the company has "absolutely" thought of such things.
"One of the great opportunities working here is to be able to meet some of the legends--to meet Tim Schafer (Full Throttle, Grim Fandango), to meet Larry Holland (X-Wing, TIE Fighter), to meet [Dave] Grossman (Day of the Tentacle) or Ron Gilbert (The Secret of Monkey Island)," he teased. "Wouldn't it be great to work with them on new things?"
"We're really excited about getting back to the heritage and the halcyon days of LucasArts," Rodriguez added. "When people couldn't wait for a LucasArts title to come out--games based on story and on character."

Of course, this is a moot point if the games in question are Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. But if it's the original JK, I'm really worried.

this is one of the stand out FPS games.
I just hope they allow for MODs as Art of the Lightsabre and Sabre Battles X are two of the most importand and little known mods in gaming. If Lucasarts took note of this type of user driven content, then we would not have crappy SW games.
Put that shit in a limited edition Steelbook and you can have all my money.

I too loved those old FPS games, they certainly dont make em like they used to :(
An updated Xwing , Xwing vs Tie Fighter, Tie Fighter or Xwing Alliance would totally float my boat too.
Goddamn the star wars universe has such potential for awesome - why cant they realise that those old games nailed it while all the new ones they attempt are just buckets of vomit.

Jedi Knight was one of the first FPS I played online. It was 56k dial up back then. You had to time your swings so you'd actually hit them. I had to swing about 3 secs in front of my opponent to actually land the swing due to lag from both ends. People who figured that out where the masters. :)
still how bout a brand new Jedi Knight developed for the PC first. I'd pay $200 for that.

No shit Sherlock, what took you guys so long to realize this? Well actually it's probably not their fault as much as they couldn't actually make money doing this until console arcade game sections came about, weirdly enough for these PC games.

I hope the expansion is released too. Mysteries of the Sith was something I never finished.
Monkey Island is NOT Dukes of Hazzard. Guybrush Threepwood is NOT Johnny Knoxville.
