Boycotters: More Left 4 Dead 1 DLC to Follow 'Crash Course'
by Nick Breckon, Sep 10, 2009 3:15pm PDTFresh off their visit to Valve, the guys responsible for the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott committee are now saying the developer has even more DLC lined up for the original game.
"There is more DLC for Left 4 Dead coming after Crash Course," said boycott organizer Walking_Target on the group's Steam blog.
Tangent was allegedly told by Valve that the new content will at least consist of "a new special infected, a new campaign or new weapon(s)."
We've contacted Valve for confirmation on the news. Thanks to Gummy Joe for the tip.

If valve were servicing just the PC, then much of the content known as L4D2 could (not necessarily would), could be released ad hoc, over time per Valve SOP. Valve would know that every PC installation is essentially the same (ie steam).
If valve were just servicing the X360, they would work within MSoft's constraints for the system, release paid DLC, and minor patches. In total, there would be limits on how far reaching the DLC could be (MSoft contraints) and valve would have a mixed bag of consumers, all with different mixes of DLC packages.
But since Valve IS fully supporting both platforms, given what they want to do with the L4D franchise, they need a way to provide both with large volumes of content and establish a homogeneous base upon which to build in the smaller changes --> ie L4D2. The real culprit here are the limitations of the X360 DLC platform and MSoft's business model. But Valve is committed to supporting the X360 audience (its a large audience) and their solution is to create a blank slate.

It would appear as though Valve is only doing this to satisfy the huge negative coverage of LFD2. It makes absolutely no logical sense. If LFD2 was a upgrade or a expansion pack sure... but not only supporting both versions of the game as well as splitting the community up makes me wonder why?!?

Release L4D2-Lite for anyone already owning L4D1. Let them play the original campaigns with the new weapons, melee stuff etc but old characters. And let them play with people who have bought L4D2 on those maps. L4D2 would include the new maps with the environmental effects and new infected and new mini-finales/gauntlets.
That would work as both a substantial free piece of content for the original game and it dosent fracture the community like a quickly released sequel would normally.
