Disney Buys Wideload, Makes Halo Creator VP

By Chris Faylor, Sep 08, 2009 9:24am PDT Halo co-creator Alex Seropian has joined Disney Interactive Studios as "vice president of creative," a new role that will see the outspoken industry veteran "overseeing creative development across Disney Interactive Studios' portfolio of video games."

In addition, Disney will acquire Chicago-based Stubbs the Zombie and Hail to the Chimp developer Wideload Games, which Seropian formed after leaving Halo developer Bungie. Prior to joining Disney, Seropian had been serving as CEO of Wideload.

"At Wideload, we've conscientiously built a forward-looking approach to game development that borrows many techniques from the film industry. Now, Wideload will be a part of one of the largest, most respected entertainment companies in the world. I'm looking forward to Wideload's continued success as a part of Disney," Seropian said.

Wideload will "focus on creating new intellectual properties for Disney that target a broad audience" and is crafting "an unannounced original family console game scheduled for release in 2010," the company explained in today's press release.

Disney further noted that download and casual-oriented offshoot Wideload Shorts (Texas Cheat 'Em, Cyclomite) will also "continue to create original properties for casual, downloadable and mobile games." Financial details of the deal were not provided.
