Interplay Games Hit Steam: Fallout, Sacrifice, Kingpin

A number of older Interplay titles were added to the Steam store today, including the Black Isle classics Fallout and Fallout 2.

In addition to the Fallout collection--which packs in Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics for $20--Xatrix's shooter Kingpin and Shiny's RTS Sacrifice are also available, though the games are generally cheaper on GOG.

This is an absolutely terrible deal compared to the same offerings on http://www.gog.com

For example each of these games costs 50% more on steam and doesn't include any of the cool extras that GOG offers such as full game sound track for some games(fallout, sacrifice) and other cool things like wallpapers and the fallout 200+ page strategy guide.

I love steam as much as the next guy, but damm, this is a terrible deal in comparison.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you install the GOG versions you can further add the non-official community patches which fix a whole bunch of things that the official last-patches did not. If you buy from Steam I wouldn't have confidence that you could do this. I've put not only gameplay fixes but also high-resolution mods into my GOG Fallout 1 + 2. I don't think this can be done with Steam.

Fallout verges on being the best game I've ever played, jostling for position with System Shock 2, Grim Fandango and Shadow of the Colossus.. But Sacrifice is one of the most beautiful and entertaining, satisfying and enthralling games I've touched. Buy it if only for the voice acting, and be surprised by one of the best and most unique gameplay designs ever made. I'd love to see it resurrected by the right crew - but it still stands up in terms of graphics and gameplay by today's standards, unlike the other two.

Kingpin.. I found really rather boring. Just a shooter, really.

After reading this thread I just bought Fallout 1 from GOG, I've only ever played Fallout 3 and this is also the first time using GOG.

Firstly: the GOG website is awesome, Valve could learn a thing or two about interfaces from whoever worked on it and fix up Steam.

Secondary: After installing Fallout 1, getting out of the Vault for the first time and seeing the following:

"This is Ed. Ed's dead."

For some reason the first thing I thought is that this game, from 1997, is better than Fallout 3.
