StarCraft 2 Delayed to 2010, Battle.net Blamed
by Nick Breckon, Aug 05, 2009 1:13pm PDTUpdate: Blizzard says that Diablo 3 is unaffected by the delay.
In the long battle between Blizzard's standards and the calendar year, the calendar again came out the loser today with the announcement that the studio's anticipated RTS sequel StarCraft II has been delayed into the first half of 2010.

Blizzard attributed the delay to needing additional time to produce the new version of Battle.net, its online gaming service. Though few details are available on the new portal, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick likened it to Xbox Live in its combination of gameplay and social networking features.
"Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game," said Blizzard in a statement.
Added the company: "The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service."
The shift of StarCraft II does not come as a huge surprise, as some analysts were already predicting the sequel might slip into the next year. Blizzard had previously stated the StarCraft II beta could last from four to six months, meaning that even if the beta had begun in August, it would have left a very tight window for Blizzard to work in.
While affirming the game was planned for release by the end of 2009, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime said in May: "But as always, we won't release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players."

Silly thing is, even if this game is ridiculously outdated graphics-wise by the time it launches, and it still brings nothing new to the RTS-scene, the game will still sell like bananas because it's a Blizzard title.

In other words, are there really any reprocusions not having a real deadline? It's odd that this game isn't so dramatically different from SC1 in the overall aspect of things. So are they like working 1 to 2 hours a day on this game or what?

since they haven't done a single damn thing since WoW and so many people left Blizz, I feel it is reassuring they are still sticking to their "fuck release dates" philosophy.
So the single player will only be from the Terran side?

With its outdated graphics, lack of LAN support, and total lack of innovation, this game is surely going to tank.
I'm surprised they even bothered with this abomination!

Wait - this sucks though! :( Crap!
Oh well, at least D3 is not affected. I'd rather play that before SC2.

Well I will have the RTM of Windows 7 tommorow (msdn sub), I guess that is a positive thing to help cool my disapointment.
I bet D3 is gona come out in like 2 and half years or something, great chance for another company to hit DX 11 and make a pimp action rpg.
I am sure by the time SC2 is out there will be other cooler RTS announced.
Oh well what can you do... nothing.
