Guitar Hero 5 Trailer Details New 'Rockfest' Mode
by Nick Breckon, Aug 05, 2009 12:32pm PDTNeversoft continues to put the "game" in the "rhythm game" genre with the "Rockfest" mode in the upcoming Guitar Hero 5.
Rockfest consists of a suite of multiplayer mods that players can apply to a single song, or string together in a playlist to be applied each round. All of the game types involve players earning points through various methods.
For instance, Streakers earns you points for note streaks, Momentum begins everyone at medium difficulty and slowly ramps up, and Do or Die temporarily kicks players out of the song if they miss three notes in any section. It's all explained in the below video:
Chatty: Diablo III, Dragon's Dogma
FileShack: Unity of Command, Skyjacker
Daily Filter: Planetside 2, Deadlight
Weekend PC digital deals: strategy-o-rama
38 Studios, Harry Potter Kinect - Shacknews Daily: May 25, 2012

I picked up GHWT for 89 bucks a few weeks ago at gamestop. I am primarily a drummer in these games and play on expert. The GHWT drums, in my opinion, are vastly superior to the RB2 drums which I preached about for a year. The mechanics in GHWT I think are more fun with the extra cymbal and "realistic" relative position of each drum pad. They also feel much more responsive.
But overall, the songs themselves in RB2 are way more fun to play. Like, way, way more fun.

They don't pick their songs based on how fun they are, they pick them based on difficulty alone.
Most of the progressions in those demos looked no fun at all. When you play the same 5 notes over and over again... not fun.
The modes themselves seem pretty stupid, too. I guess super hardcore guys would like the 3 strikes mode but I don't forsee any of my friends making it through any section without missing three notes unless they're playing on medium or easy.
