IL-2 Sturmovik Lands on Consoles September 15

World War II flight combat simulator IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey will hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and PSP on September 15, publisher 505 announced today.

The first console release of 1C's once PC-only wartime flight sim series, Birds of Prey is said to pack four multiplayer modes, over 50 campaign missions, and a "completely flexible difficulty" system that goes "from arcade to realistic simulation."

Gaijin Entertainment handled the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version, with DiP Interactive helming the Nintendo DS edition and SME Dynamic Systems on the PSP release.

It kind of sucks that we finally have the power to depict very realistic looking flight sims but now we're resigned to gameplay in the form of 3rd person arcade shooters.

So, I'm hoping this is the game that will get my father into gaming. He's a HUGE WW2 fighter plane buff, it's the love of his life. He is not a gamer in anyway though and I think the 360 controller may end up being a barrier to entry. Anyone know if they're making a flight stick for this or if there's good ones available?

- Well there is the Ace Edge flight stick for Ace Combat 6. That's probably the best flight stick for 360. ... : kodt

The IL-2 games are epic. Glad they're coming to the consoles where hopefully more people will experience them. I like that there will be multiple difficulty systems. The multiplayer is fun as hell too.
I'm confident Oleg(the game's creator) will give us a well polished experience.
