Croteam Killing 'Cartoony Look' for Serious Sam 3

Serious Sam developer Croteam says that the next sequel in the fast-paced shooter series will leave behind the stylized visuals of Serious Sam 2.

"I believe Serious Sam fans would want to hear the following two things," said Croteam chief Roman Ribaric. "First, Serious Sam 3 will play like the original Serious Sam. And second, we'll leave the cartoony look behind."

Added Ribaric: "As for standing up to other games: simply, if it's good to play, it's good to play. Serious Sam games belong to their own unique fast-paced FPS genre and should best be compared to previous Serious Sam games."

No details on platforms or a release schedule for Serious Sam 3 are currently known. Croteam is currently focused on releasing Serious Sam HD, a remake of the original title for Xbox Live and PC.

I will wait to see screenshots, but I did like the cartoon look. I thought serious sam 2 was fine, though some say it wasn't as good as #1.

To be honest, as long as it's fast and fun I don't really care what it looks like.

That said, the slightly cartoony graphics were good, hope the new ones still convey a sense of 'fun'.

Yet again a PC games developer has with deliberate malice defecated into the very faces of its most loyal fans. However, Croteam has made a grievous error if they think they can get away with this atrocity. Presumably, like most "Shackers" I am shaking with anger at this calamitous news but I'm also resolved to use every means at my disposal to fight this catastrophic insult. I call today on all similarly exasperated PC gamers to unite with me and use "any means necessary", following the example of Malik El-Hajj Shabazz and Tata Mandiba Nelson Mandela to prevent the abhorrent barbarism of Croteam "leaving the cartoony look behind." Our first step must be an internet petition!

It was because you took your corny shit seriously and made it out to be ridiculously badass. That was the attitude that made SS awesome.

I'm very happy about this decision :) I would love to play a realistic graphics Serious Sam game, and also with a more realistic style but keeping the epic gameplay. Can't wait to see how it ends up :D

Bad decision. My favourite thing about SS 2 was that it looked fantastically out of place and had a refreshing sense of humour, even if some of it fell flat.

Croteam decided they just want to make another boring shooter that's a dime a dozen.

I'm not a fan of the series, but it's pretty interesting seeing the fan reaction of this decision.

I figured people would be up in arms about the game just copying the look of every other modern realistic FPS and ditching it's unique style. Apparently, the reaction is the opposite. Most seem happy by this choice.

I'd be more interested with a cartoony look, but then I'm not likely to play the game either way.

Aside from the looks and graphics of it, also just the silliness. I mean, SS2 went a little above and beyond in the silly department, but FE/SE had just the right amount so that it wasn't too little nor too much.
