The Secret of Monkey Island: SE Arrives

As LucasArts continues to embrace its various beloved adventure franchises, the developer's enhanced re-release of The Secret of Monkey Island is now available.

Priced at $10, the downloadable adventure can be had on Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Marketplace and PC thanks to digital download outlets Steam and Direct2Drive. The re-release allows players to swap between two versions of the game: the 1990 original and a newly enhanced edition with redrawn art, voice acting and redone music.

Fancy redrawn art or the 1990 originals? It's your call.

The first new Monkey Island title in nearly a decade, Telltale's Tales of Monkey Island - Chapter 1, debuted last week as LucasArts began re-releasing many of its vintage titles through Steam, with the retro titles said to be available through Direct2Drive soon.

I've never played Monkey Island before and if it wasn't for this remake I probably never would have.

It's great how you can switch between the old version and the new one, the voice overs are a great improvement and the art style only lacks in the character department compared to the other one.

I loved every second of it too, they just don't make them like this anymore. =[

How about discussing something important here? Has anyone else gotten a Blue Screen of Death while playing on Vista64? (happened while training with Cap'N Smirk)

I don't see what all the fuss is about the hair. The only thing that bothers me besides a few minor graphic glitches (OMG real issues) is the dead eyed retarded mannequin face Guybrush has when he faces the screen.

I actually like the new art style, although I do admit the old version have awesome nostalgia quality about them.

Although I do agree that the in-game Guybrush looks very, very odd.

Although I really hate the new interface. Switching between actions is a pain and the icons are ridiculously hard to understand. Plus my mouse keeps losing focus when it goes to the edge of the screen, which is frustrating.

I am hoping as the special edition with new and original graphics is coded on top of the old engine that they would allow us to use the voices with original graphics.

Love to see this come out on PSN. The last point and click adventure game I finished was the 3rd Broken sword game, which was good, but nowhere near as good as the first two. I've also never played a Monkey Island game, but i've heard very good things

My favourite game of all time gets a modern "re-imagining". I admire the concept, but, like most people here, hate the Guybrush look. Think Elaine looks pretty good, but Guybrush is just plain wrong.

Would be good to have toggles for the individual aspects of the old and new versions, i.e. music, voiceover, background, characters, you could then mix and match as you preferred.
