Evening Reading: Mike Wazowski

After catching Up recently, I was inspired to rewatch Monsters, Inc. last night. Considering it was released in 2001, the visuals still hold up, and the writing is unsurprisingly as solid as ever. Feel free to bring that and The Incredibles to Blu-ray whenever you want, Pixar.

The real question is, how far will I take this? Do I dare rewatch Toy Story 1 & 2? I mean, that's, like, 14-year-old and 10-year-old CGI, respectively. I'm so very tempted, but I'm afraid of destroying my previous rose-tinted memories. Anyways, onto today's news:

That shouldn't even be an issue. Does the animation in Fantasia still hold up? Of course it does, and that's over 50 years old.

hand drawn animation is a lot different from computer animation in regards to what's being talked about

true, but that's why Pixar is the best at what they do. Their movies hold up great over time while others don't.

Monsters Inc. is probably my second-favorite Pixar film (after The Incredibles).

Aye, I just rewatched Toy Story 1 and 2 a couple weeks ago, and they hold up quite well.

The classic stories in Toy Story 1 and 2 still hold up. And as the animation is classic, that still holds up too.

If you're at all interested in computer graphics you'll notice how sparse the first movie looks in comparison to later CG movies and you may even recognize some common procedural texture patterns, but this doesn't hamper the movies at all. Toy Story is still my favorite Pixar movie.

I still hate Randy Newman though.
