Halo 3: ODST Screenshots Star Sgt. Johnson

The latest screenshots for Bungie's Halo 3: ODST star grizzled series veteran Sgt. Johnson, who can be used as a playable character in the cooperative Firefight mode so long as you pre-order the Xbox 360 shooter from any "participating retailer."

Halo 3: ODST has the most "positive purchase interest" of any game due out in over a month, according to a recent Nielsen Company report noticed by Gamasutra.

Packing a new single-player campaign that follows the exploits of orbital drop shock troopers prior to the events of Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST is due out on September 22. Along with the new Firefight mode, the game also includes every Halo 3 multiplayer map released thus far, plus three new ones, and multiplayer beta access for Halo: Reach.

Bringing back all the old maps is disheartening, it means that the game will probably play very similarly to Halo 1/2/3. I was hoping for something more tactical since you're not some superpowered cyborg.

Why do I feel like this is something they are just pumping out for MS? I love the Halo series, but this isn't really connecting with me.

Maybe Bungie is done with Halo 3 engine Dev (mainly...some touch ups here and there) and they are already working on a halo title for the next gen?

I hated that annoying character's guts; all talk and no walk. Sgt. Avery Johnson had to be the biggest screw up in the entire UNSC. Every time you'd part ways, Johnson would get himself captured or fail to hold up his end of the mission. You'd hear some call over the radio about how "there were too many brutes, ma'am" or "we're pinned down" and you'd have to go pull his fat out of the fire. I shouted with glee when Guilty Spark fried his ass so I don't have to deal with his shit in Halo 4.

firefight mode is essentially horde mode, right? I love the sound of that. Horde mode was great, but I prefer playing Halo to Gears, as do most of my friends. Should be awesome.
