BioShock Novel to Be Published by Tor Books

BioShock is set to expand into literary realms this fall with a novel published by sci-fi and fantasy publisher Tor Books, according to a book catalogue received by Gamasutra.

An included sample page is credited to BioShock writer and creative director Ken Levine, but Gamasutra speculates this might credit concepts not authorship. All that's certain is that the novel will run 400 pages and be available in hardcover and paperback.

The novel shall most likely eschew pictures in favour of words. Here are some anyway.

Tor Books has previously published novels based upon a variety of video games including Halo, Dragon Age and Perfect Dark, often writen by developers themselves.

The novel's fall launch window happily coincidences with BioShock 2's release date of November 3--announced yesterday--on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Mos tof the time reading a book, and then when it becomes a movie and going to see it is acceptable... but playing a video game.. and then reading a book, is in EVERY WAY WRONG

The game was fun, had great environments, but it is NOT novel worthy nor do I believe movie worthy. I do not undestand why the INDUSTRY continues to pump this franchise up so much. I haven't met one person or seen one comment that says this franchise deserves the attention and critical acclaim it keeps getting.

I'm willing to bet that many of the reviewers, in hindsight, would rate the game lower because of HOW REPETITIVE it was.

I feel that books are a much stronger story-telling tool than video games, hands down. For me, video games are a rich visual/ spacial experience, but books take the crown when it comes to the emotional experience.

The game was merely middle-upper good, but if this author can capture Rapture (hehe) in all its damp, claustrophobic, leaking, psychotic, underwater glory then I'll certainly check out his book. I'm a big fan of science fiction... and underwater cities.

oh god oh god... why do companies like to dumb people up? I guess it brings them money. if you're going to read a book go read real ones, not commercial novelisation of a good game.

BioShock's got a great story and a rich setting. I'd love to see them explore the world, and the personalities in it, in ways that would otherwise be to "boring" to convey in a game form.
