Morning Discussion
by Chris Faylor, May 21, 2009 7:14am PDTHello there ladies and gentlemen, are you ready to rock? Are you ready or not?
Yeah, I know, that's a cheap trick of an opening, but that phrase has been stuck in my head (again) courtesy of the Rock Band 2 opening. The nice part is, I can explain that, it's easy. It's the song that plays when you start the game. You understand, I'm sure.
Unfortunately, I am lacking in my ability to explain away some of the the other subjects that have been on my mind lately, chiefly: submarines, Washington DC, dinosaurs, and the correlation (if any) between old-school cowboys and modern-day gangsters.

So this weekend people are getting together at my place in San Diego for BBQ and the watching of Terminator: Salvation. We'll be seeing it at the Edwards Mira Mesa 18 at 9:35pm. You have to buy your own tickets in advance. We an carpool from my house. http://www.moviefone.com/theater/edwards-mira-mesa-stadium-18/5017/showtimes?selectedShowDate=20090523
We're gonna try to meet up at 1pm, get the grills going, and probably eat around 3 or 4. I have a classic Nintendo with a bunch of nostalgic games, a 360, and a Wii. Feel free to bring stuff if you want particular drinks or eats. I will provide things like chips and salsa, burgers, hotdogs, Coke and Sprite, Guinness, and hard liquor. Actually if someone could bring music that would be awesome (!), since all I have is a shitty portable cd player left over from college and my boyfriend's record player.
Parking will be on the street. It's a residential neighborhood so it shouldn't be too hard to find street parking on a weekend. Also we have a couch that folds out to a queen sized bed in case any of you guys drink too much and decide you need to snuggle another cock overnight.
as for the RSVP - I think BlackCat9 is going to make an official entry on the shackmeet website. Otherwise you can just SM me for phone/address info.

The server has been going down more often than a $2 whore on Two-Fer Tuesdays. Also, I apologize for not being on the ball with updates -- work has been brutal this week. I should be able to take care of bidness during the long weekend.
For those who haven't heard, Agrona has founded a second alliance -- ShaqFly -- to make room for any other Shackers who want to play. Our existing alliance, Shaqnews, is always at/near around the member cap (100), so it makes sense. I'll probably be switching over to that alliance sometime next week, to help Agrona coordinate efforts between the two.

Any tips for playing against Lesnar in UFC Undisputed 2009?
Everyone online uses Lesnar in heavyweight and boy is he cheap.
I had a guy last night that just wouldn't let me get up. He kept taking me down, pounding me a little. I'd push him off but before I got up he'd kick me down again. Wash, rinse, repeat. By the second round I had jack all health left and I got KO'd.

Also, I haven't done a hardware setup for ages, if I get two 1TB drives, should I set them up as raid and what raid for maximum speed? I'm not worried about redundancy since most of my work ends up on external svn servers.

Awesome game, but why the HELL did they decide to have a system that requires you to be logged in to two separate services just to play an online match? On a more immediate note: anybody else getting notifications after the latest patch that you're not logged in to Steam and you should check on the client? I can see my client running on my second monitor, happily logged in. Anybody know how to fix that?
I thought about trying to hook up a webcam so I can show DoWII the other monitor and say "LOOK! IT'S LOGGED IN YOU POORLY CODED PIECE OF CRAP!" but I think that would only serve to make me look like a crazy person and drive up my blood pressure. :-(

I'm trying to help my buddy find something but xoticpc is out of stock of the Asus W90, amazon doesn't have it in stock, neither does anywhere else that I can find. Any suggestions on beastly laptops? Alienware still only has the 3870 X2. Are there some solid machines that we are missing?
He's kinda meh on the 9800 SLI just because there is superior technology out there...not overly concerned about size. Doesn't want a desktop, he wants a powerful laptop. I suggested the XPS m1730 or the gateway P series but he's not interested. Anything we're missing?
Do we have any shackers on Scilla, Alliance side? A few friends and me are rerolling there (well, I'm transferring my level 30 priest, they're rerolling).

E.S. Posthumus writes music that's a truly epic blend of grandiose orchestration, energetic percussion, pop sensibilities, exotic instrumentation, mass choirs and moody synths. Their music has been used in numerous movie trailers, tv shows and commercials. Really great stuff.
I'm pretty sure I heard about these guys first on the Shack too (?) so I'm returning the favour and hoping some Shackers discover these guys through my post! Check 'em out! :D

Today we pushed our first major update to the Stable channel since we launched the stable channel back in December (5 months, that's way too long!). We're pushed the build 172 series that's been baking on the beta channel, so now all users of Chrome have access to things like:
* Remove unwanted sites from the New Tab page
* Fullscreen mode
* Form autofill
* Middle-mouse autoscroll
...plus lots of other fixes and updates. This version of Chrome should be faster and snazzier in many ways. If you're a stable channel user already, you can visit Tools->About Google Chrome to force an immediate update check. You can also wait to be auto-updated, although we're rolling out very gradually so that will take some time. If you don't have Chrome installed, you can install from http://google.com/chrome and you will get the new version.
In the future we hope to push big updates to stable faster; this one took a while for a number of reasons that have now been fixed.
In other news, we're excited to hear about Mozilla's "Jetpack" extension initiative, because it's very similar to Chrome extensions in many ways: designed around HTML + JS instead of proprietary techs like XUL, safe across version changes, doesn't require restart, etc. Personally my hope is that someday these initiatives converge in ways that let you write one extension and have it run on Firefox or Chrome.
We continue to work on our own extensions framework. There's still a lot to do for "version 1" but it's progressing fast. Extension auto-update is just starting to land so you won't have to manually remove/re-install extensions to update them (yay).
Mac and Linux are also progressing fast. I can't say when we hope to start getting alpha-quality versions into the Dev channel but we're hoping for Real Soon Now. They're still obviously rough but the teams are pushing them forward fast.

houston peoples: need a desktop support guy. it will initially be handled through an agency with an open contract to hire dealio. somewheres around $25.00 an hour.
you need to be able to do all the desktop support thinigies desktop support people do and you need to have working knowledge of how to troubleshoot and maintain systems on a windows domain environment and have a strong understanding of internal and external networking.
there's a pretty lengthy technical interview SO PLEASE DON'T BULLSHIT prior to the interview AND THEN FAIL MISERABLY LIKE THE GUY DID TODAY.
also, this is a kind of blue collar setting and you need to have normal human social skills. if you've got asperger's and need anti-anxiety pills to carry a conversation with a group of people but are the superman of fixing computers then this isn't for you. sorry nerds.

It has claimed no less than 5 belts in a little over a calendar year. Last summer, it took 2 off one of those John Deere type riding law mowers. About a month ago, it claimed another belt off that mower, plus the belt on a self propelled mower.
Last night it took the heavy duty belt off one of these things.

The neighbor behind me is playing karaoke Tejano while I'm trying to sleep. I'm pretty sure this is an offense punishable by death. At what point in time is it considered a social responsibility to shoot out their speakers?

The PCIEX16_1, PCIE16_2 and PCIEX8_1 slots support 2-Way/3-Way NVIDIA SLI/ATI CrossFireX technology and conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
Does that mean that I can stick 3 cards in there? Would the third card flip out with just PCIx8 ?

So I just drove 525 miles from Austin to Little Rock, AR. Nothing much happened, just a few little things to note.
First off, I-35 is one huge speed trap. I didn't get caught, but I saw cop cars in all sorts of awkward positions and on crazy slopes behind bridges just waiting for someone to fuck up. It was like that all the way from Austin to Dallas.
Truck drivers are fucking insane in Arkansas. I don't think they believe in traffic laws or something. There was one guy going like 85 in a 65mph zone.
People in Arkansas are still racist as fuck. I had an interesting experience here about 5 years ago when I went camping with my family. I thought I’d give them another chance as I drove through this time... In the two minutes I spent in a gas station, the clerks were talking about a table of black people at a restaurant or something. >.<
I think I set a new record for gas mileage in my car. 30.3 MPG… not bad for a 2.8L straight 6.
Maybe tomorrow will be more interesting.
