Duke Nukem Forever Gameplay Footage Leaked
by Alice O'Connor, May 10, 2009 10:12am PDTFollowing the shut down of 3D Realms last week and subsequent asset leaks, an extended look at some Duke Nukem Forever gameplay footage has surfaced via Duke4.net and the demo reel of former 3D Realms artist Brian Brewer.
Being Duke, some of the footage is obviously not wholesome family viewing.
The reel was not meant for public consumption, as Brewer's website reads "As much as I would like to show everyone I can't. This is for game developers only." Duke fans should be familiar with Brewer, as he helped animate the 2007 teaser trailer.
Developer 3D Realms, which retains the rights to Duke Nukem Forever and the Duke IP, has not issued any comment as to its plans, while publisher Take-Two has reiterated that it owns the publishing rights to the title. Meanwhile, Apogee Software LLC--publisher of the upcoming handheld Duke Nukem Trilogy--is teasing a Duke Nukem-related announcement for next week via its Twitter.

Way I see it this might go two ways.
1. DNF is dead. Dead as a dead thing, in a dead land, on a dead day.
2. Some other company with more shazzam and speed gets the rights and makes this thing happen.
Obviously no.2 is the option I'm hoping for. Duke is just so cool. I was well up for blasting some aliens then going to a bar and watching some bird shake her baps at me. Specially since the technology has come a long way from Duke 3D.

These reels may not be complete but they made me want to play it more than anything else we saw or heard from the company in the last 12 years.

Thanks George. Thanks for having an opportunity to make one of the most insanely coolest games in existence and blowing it with your lame fucking management style.

This IP given to any other developers would have developed and published it like 10 years ago and would have made further sequels and expansions and whatnots within this 12 year period.
I'm sorry 3drealms, you dug your own grave. No wonder they couldn't get any more funding. No sane person would want to continue throwing money into a bottomless pit. They'd rather get the IP and throw it to others to develop it cause they know for damn sure that 3drealms ain't capable!

I do think I would put up any of my own money into this, especially if I had been told that it was close to being done before, and before that, and again. Granted, it looks bad-ass, it is the duke. But it does not look anywhere close to being done or anywhere close to what a game should look like after this long of a cycle, engine switches or not.
Its possible that T2 simply has no more money to spend right now, or maybe this is a personal fight, spilled over to the business. When working on the DUKE, you have to think like the DUKE. And the DUKE is one egotistical ass-kicker. I think they keep trying to make the best game ever and are not trying to finish this game, exactly.

When I hear the music and view the opening flash screens I get goose-pimples and a lump in my throat. It feels like I just lost a friend
I'm 47 and I've turned into an emotional basket case.
