Weekend Discussion
by Chris Faylor, May 09, 2009 9:28am PDTThe nice part about working on an internet website is that, no matter where I wake up, no matter the odd circumstances, no matter how different the coffee tastes, so long as there's some sort of internet access, I feel warm and fuzzy and right at home. Scary.
I have no idea what this weekend will bring--I need to see Star Trek, among many other tasks--but I know for sure that I'll be playing more of Klonoa Wii. What a wonderful update one of my all-time favorites, the remake just oozes with happiness and glee.
Though, I have to say, the included coupon for Wahoo Fish Tacos was ...unexpected. I mean, I kinda understand it--Klonoa says "Wahoo!" a lot--but uh, fish tacos? Really?

If you told me today that I could quit my job and get a job running a UAV, I would do it in a heartbeat.

She doesn't go outside unless no one's around and then she'll just wander out and do whatever. She has no claws, since my mom had her fully declawed (which I fully disagree with). I'm really worried right now. Looked everywhere in the house and I can't find her.

Saw the Star Trek movie yesterday. Overall, quite enjoyable. However, there were a few things I didn't really dig.
... I wasn't thrilled with the fact that time travel was used yet again as a crucial plot device. However, in this case I'm willing to forgive it since it set the stage for the reboot of the universe.
... Comedy relief in the form of midget alien, complete with sad face was a bit cutsey.
... Scottie was criminally underused.
... The movie could have easily been titled Star Trek: Xtreme Ledge Grabbing
The pew-pew laser scenes, and the thing with scottie in the water tank seemed like the movie was made for a console game. Also, I wonder how the hard core trek fans will take to the very star wars esque zooming ship with lasers at the end. Overall, I kinda like the action filled Trek vs. the cerebral "racism is bad kay" trek. Hopefully, the next movie will be an equal mix of both.
The Winona Ryder and Matt Damon cameos were neat.
Uhura is hot. Green Chick should get naked but she's probably dead.
The movie made me want to go check out that space related RPG. I'm tempted to get Mass Effect on Steam now.

I'm trying to load one texture on a terrain generated from hightvalues. So far i've only managed to load the texture on every single polygon. I want to strech it over the whole terrain. Anyone know how to do that?
So far my code looks like this:
GLuint image = ilutGLLoadImage("bergen.jpg");
glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D);
glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, image);
glBegin(GL_TRIANGLES);
for ( int X = 0; X < (rows - 1); X += 1 ){
for ( int Y = 0; Y < (cols - 1); Y += 1 ){
/* Calculate normals here */
// Vertex 1
glTexCoord2f(0.0f, 0.0f);
// Vertex 1: x,y
x = X;
y = Height(heightData, X, Y);
z = Y;
if (y != nodata && y != 0){
//SetVertexColor(heightData, x, z);
glVertex3f((float)x * cellsize, y, invert * ((float)z * cellsize));
}
else if (y == 0) {
//glColor3f(0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f);
glVertex3f((float)x * cellsize, y, invert * ((float)z * cellsize));
}
// Vertex 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
} // for end
} // for end

I want to get back to keyboarding correctly. I learned to type on a manual typewriter in 8th grade in the 70s so I don't have any clue if any of the programs are worth a fuck or if there is a free online thing I can use. Anyone here have actual experience or did you all learn to keyboard in kindergarten?

So I'm on world 5 right now, about halfway through. I don't know how much is left but I'm already dreading the fact that it's probably going to be over soon =/ What an awesome game. I love the art, the theme, how the gameplay elements are tied in with the story...It's so well done and unique.

David Lacey (police officer): “We turned our windshield wipers on, and it just started smearing to the point where we could almost not see. We both looked at each other and we said 'gee this isn't right'. We're out in the middle of nowhere, basically, and where did this come from?”
Robert Stack: “Officer Lacey pulled into a gas station to de-goo his windshield. As an added precaution, he put on a pair of latex gloves.”
David Lacey (police officer): “The substance was very mushy, almost like if you had jello in your hand. You know, you could pretty much squish it through your fingers. We knew it wasn't something we would normally see, because we had never experienced it before. We had some bells go off in our heads that said that basically 'this isn't right, this isn't normal.”

* Everyone should be updated approximately once a day. I've had to change the way I do updates since the update program was taking too long to run, and the process kept getting killed. Right now every 5 minutes approximately 30 people get updated.
* PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR XBOX LIVE FIELD. There are still some tags that are getting through my filter to kill the junk.
Remember, this is just for fun.

For the most part the transition has been pretty smooth other that the fact that Adobe STILL doesn't have a 64 bit version of flash. Fags. Also Minefield is a great name for a beta app, gg Mozilla.
So this is where you guys tell me all the cool things I can do with this OS and link some of the "must have" apps.

i have the new car bug, so here we go. apparently now is the time to be looking, however it will most likely not be until next summer when i have saved enough to comfortably put down a 20k or so down payment on a target price range of say +- 35k.
tentatively i'm looking at the "entry" level lexus, bmw, and benz lines, like say an IS250 (manual) or something comparable.
anyway, i want to use this time to get to know my shit, so when i walk into the dealership they can't get a single thing past me and i walk out satisifed that i got a deal. i've seen shackers talk about sweet deals so i want in on that action!
recommend me some "how to haggle" websites or other material plz!
jimmy-buffet, don't you have an IS, what's your take on the car?

It's going to be pretty much just like his current show with a new stage built for comedy. Sadly this show is probably going to be very successful.
