Duke Nukem Forever Level Shots, Concepts Emerge
by Alice O'Connor and Nick Breckon, May 08, 2009 5:56pm PDTA number of images from now-closed developer 3D Realms' shooter Duke Nukem Forever have been posted by former employees of the company today.

Chief among them are screenshots of DNF levels--apparently of the EDF base and an infested Hoover Dam--featured on the blog of former 3DR art director Tramell Isaac, seen above.
Concept art from artist Layne Johnson has also been added to his personal blog, showing more of the Aliens-inspired theme, in addition to enemy and weapon concepts.

That's one of the silliest monster face designs I've seen in a while. That black thing in the middle is supposed to be its one eye, but I cannot for the life of me stop seeing it as a nose! It then has two slit-like eyes above it which look closed, so to me it looks like this thing has a cheesy grin with a cute button nose instead of looking menacing.

1. They were working on a government contract, and after 12 years and cost over-runs, the government said, "Never mind."
or
2. They were a couple of weeks away from release, and somebody hacked their computers and stole their "Source" code.....

If I was an art director and had my resume posted online, you'd think I'd modify this bit:
"I provided the kind of leadership that was needed to help bring about a change in attitude, structure and production that will culminate into Duke Nukem Forever finally seeing the store shelves."
Unless of course he knows something that we dont.. (pure speculation).

I remember reading about how 3dr wanted to create an interactive world, looks like they were attempting that in the 2001 video, but these pictures may not do any bit of justice to some of the possible "unique" features of the game. not defending 3dr because they are probably the most horribly managed game development house that we have ever seen, at least romero released 3 games

It's just ironic to me that this type of by-the-numbers stuff is out after 3DR gets shutdown.
