Blizzard: StarCraft 2 Beta Coming 'This Summer'

Blizzard president Mike Morhaime today confirmed that the StarCraft II beta would begin sometime this summer.

"This summer we will be opening up external beta testing, and while we haven't announced a release date yet, this phase will also signal the final stretch [of development on the game]," said Morhaime during today's Activision Blizzard conference call.

Signups for the beta officially opened yesterday, with users able to opt-in to the test by way of their Battle.net profiles. The test will focus on the multiplayer mode, featuring all three of the title's races and several maps.

"Our priority now is completing the core game," added Morhaime. "Once that is complete, our focus will shift [to the two expansions]."

Yeah, SC2 and D3 will be sweet, but I cant help feeling that they should have announced them a bit later / closer to release. Making everyone wait so long is kinda annoying/lets the hype decay.

You do know that Diablo is a different team than Starcraft. Sure some may be working on starcraft that worked on diablo but diablo is still going in the back ground. After they release Starcraft 2 they will still have to follow up with patches etc.. and they even stated they are going to start working on the expansions. This coming out faster has nothing to do with how fast Diablo III will come out.
