Petroglyph, Trion Partner for MMORTS

Trion World Network today announced a partnership wtih Star Wars: Empire at War developer Petroglyph to create an MMORTS using Trion's proprietary technology.

Though no details of the game are available, Trion's technology was said to be comprised of "advanced server architecture, designed to enable massive scalability, dynamic content evolution and cross platform development."

Petroglyph, best known for its RTS titles Star Wars: Empire at War and Universe at War: Earth Assault, was founded in 2003 by former employees of the now-defunct Command & Conquer developer Westwood Studios.

"Petroglyph is extremely excited to be working with a visionary publisher like Trion World Network", said Petroglyph president Michael Legg. "Combining Trion's platform and industry expertise with our GLYPH game technology and our development pedigree will allow us to unleash a groundbreaking MMORTS gaming experience to the world."

  • The only MMORTS game I know of was one I beta tested for a LONG time ago. Shattered Galaxy. It is definitely showing its age though. I believe the website is www.sgalaxy.com Again though, it's really old, as in starcraft graphics old, or maybe a little worse, idk. It also involved controlling squads, and there being up to 12 units per person, and as many as 50 or sometimes more people per battle, and you can reinforce as well with different units. I wonder how Petroglyph plans on making theirs...strategy though the combined smaller tactics of each person? Or is each person capable of helping swing the entire battle with some of their units? Sounds interesting to say the least and I'll be keeping my eyes on this one.
