"This image is completely in-game as you will see Borderlands when you play it," the company told Shacknews today.

On an unrelated note: when will Shack fix the gallery? Under Firefox you have to click on the thumb image twice before it shows up the first time you load the page, and why does clicking on the image in the story take you to the gallery with a black screen instead of the actual image? Can't be that hard to fix.

I'm all for this type of stuff. How far can you take realistic graphics anyways?
This doesn't seem like a big change or anything, the game may not "stand out" if that's what it's trying to do, but they aren't flaunting the game for it's graphics and that's fine by me. I hope we still get those half-a-million guns and such.

"[ Borderlands looks better than I feared.
New shot from GBX:

and:
"I still think the chars stand a bit to much out like TF2. I don't like cartoony graphics. But often I can live with it. TF2 went too far for me because of the characters, the buildings/environments don't cross the same line. This is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than TF2 in that regard. But still a bit too much IMHO :)"
Kudos to GBX making cartoony graphics that don't suck completely.
But I would like to know how they went about doing this change from a techinical stand point. Did this involve them having to replace all or a substantial portion of the art assets or was it mostly just shader changes or perhaps something in between as far as severity of changes?
