Borderlands Screenshot: Here's Your New Art Style

By Chris Faylor, Apr 16, 2009 9:49am PDT After last week's teaser image of Borderlands' new "concept art style," developer Gearbox has released a proper screenshot of the shooter-RPG via the title's official site.

"This image is completely in-game as you will see Borderlands when you play it," the company told Shacknews today.

Still powered by Unreal Engine 3, at last official word, Borderlands hits PC , PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this year, no later than October 31. For more on the game, including a glimpse of what it used to look like, check out our past coverage and videos.

  • I like it, the characters look kinda weird but at least they actually look like they are part of the game world and don't have that weird cell-shady "I look like I don't belong here because I fucked with the dimensions" outline that some games have, like Wind Waker and Prince of Persia. I also need a word for that.

This doesn't seem like a big change or anything, the game may not "stand out" if that's what it's trying to do, but they aren't flaunting the game for it's graphics and that's fine by me. I hope we still get those half-a-million guns and such.

  • I think I prefer the more realistic approach but this is actually pretty pleasing to the eye. I will however take this opportunity to take a shot at PC Gamer. The first issue where they had the new EIC was awesome (the one before the BF issue). The BF issue (last issue) was shitty crap poop shit. The layout was a desktop publishing nightmare with stuff all over the place, and what the hell is the deal with the big gaudy yellow blocks and shit?? I dunno. Maybe I can get used to it, I'm just touchy about it since it's literally the last strictly PC gaming mag available. Plus the FEATURE STORY was just rehashed info about all the pseudo BF games coming out.

But Borderlands is in my watch list.
